Things To Know If you change your name, change it in Banner and notify the Council If you move, change your address in Banner. Certification requirements are subject to change without notice

New ISBE Rules Effective February 1, 2012 –No professional education or content course with a grade lower than a ‘C’ can be used toward certification, endorsement, or approval –No professional education or content course taken for CR/NC can be used toward certification, endorsement or approval

Certificate K-9 (Type 3) Initial Must renew every 4 fiscal years Citizenship or legally present to work and signed statement agreeing to become a citizen within 10 years. Standard 4 years teaching experience on an Initial certificate and have completed ISBE approved professional development options.

Endorsements Middle grade endorsements (grades 5-8) –Broad based –Typically 18 hours in subject Exceptions: math/ESL –Recommend at least two –Bilingual/ESL (CI/DEIL) –State needs: math, science, foreign language, ESL, bilingual

Endorsements Must take Middle Grade Coursework CI 410, EPS 427, EPSY 430 Online through UI Other institutions (link on CoTE website) Most students take between junior/senior year Can delay certification and take summer after graduation Can also do anytime after as well – different process

Endorsements Social Science built in Close in General Science (14-18) –18 hours = all 4 hour science courses Close in Language Arts (13-20) –English, Journalism, Speech, Creative Writing, BTW –Something outside of these areas check with Council Area of Concentration gives you a start

Endorsements Foreign language –5-8, K-4: 18 hours –9-12: 20 hours minimum + pass content test + pass APT for 6-12 or K-12 –Recommend passing content test for any foreign language endorsement (HQ) –Limited test dates for Arabic, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Japanese, Korean, Russian

Testing No tests first year of program Elementary/Middle Grade –Take Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 Allow for a fall-back date APT Grades K-9 –Wait until Spring 2012

Reminder Criminal Background Checks are being done on April 20 & 21 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. You must take the form to 505 E. Green Street, Suite 203 PRIOR to April 12, 2010 to schedule an appointment. You cannot just drop off the form – must see one of the secretaries to make an appointment. Hrs 8:30-12 and 1-5
