Lipid-bilayer around outside of cell’s cytoplasm
3
Regulates what enters and leaves the cell. Selectively permeable Protects and supports the cell. It is like the doors to this classroom, or to the school.

7
Cell Transport There are two Types of Cell transport: Passive Transport Active transport
8
Passive Transport Movement of materials across the cell membrane that DOES NOT require energy Two Types: Osmosis & Diffusion
9
Diffusion The process by which particles move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration Facilitated Diffusion When molecules that cannot diffuse direclt actross the membrane and pass through special protein channels
10
Osmosis The diffusion of water through the membrane. Water will move until equilibrium is reached
11
Active Transport The movement of materials from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration. This requires ENERGY. Small molecules use protein pumps Larger molecules are transferred by endocytosis and exocytosis Forms a pocket around the material and then breaks free inside the cell Membrane of vacuole surrounding material fuses with the cell membrane
12
Tape in Cell Membrane Diagram Color the following types of transport: Ion Channel = Red Simple Diffusion = Yellow Facilitated Diffusion = Green Osmosis = Blue Protein Pump = Purple Endocytosis = Orange Exocytosis = Orange For each of these types of transport: 1.Describe what types of materials are moved 2.Give the definition of this type of transport 3.Identify it is either active (requires energy) or passive (no energy needed) transport.
