An introduction lesson for a class which will be learning about electricity and basic installations Back to Overview

Wiring a plug includes several basic features for a future electrician like selecting fuse sizes and ensure proper connections. Back to Overview

The students will be giving instructions and will also act on instructions from their peers Key Content Words from the technical vocabulary includes tools (wire strippers and cutters etc) the language structure will be the imperative. The learning will be supported by two online units for learners at level A1 and level A2: http://multidict.net/cs/246 and http://multidict.net/cs/245 http://multidict.net/cs/246http://multidict.net/cs/245 The students will learn how to use the imperative. The scaffolding used will mainly be based on work sheets with pictures of tools and an online CALL unit where they can click on all words and look them up in dictionaries.scaffolding Some more Scaffolding Techniques to help studentsScaffolding Techniques Back to Overview

The Learners will use and acquire several Cognitive Skills they will:Cognitive Skills Understand the basics of wiring a plug Apply their knowledge and instruct another student how to wire a plug Evaluate which fuse size is suitable for different types of appliances. Remember key vocabulary and use it in different ways as part of instructions. Through the activities use both HOTS & LOTS – Higher Order Thinking Skills & Lower Order Thinking Skills, See Bloom’s Wheel, i.e. from understanding through applying to evaluation of the quality of the wiring in a plug.HOTS & LOTS Bloom’s Wheel Back to Overview

Can Dos: Understand the need for proper sized fuses. Install a wired plug Check the connection in a plug Choose the right conductor for each of the three pins Decide whether a plug is properly wired Back to Overview

The plugs used in the lesson should be the British fused type used in Cyprus, Ireland, Malta, and UK Knowing how to wire a plug properly is a needed knowledge for all people. Most fires caused by faulty installation are due to wrong fuse sizes or wires not inserted or tightened properly. Back to Overview

Back to OverviewBack to Cognition We have to remember a concept before we can understand it. We have to understand a concept before we can apply it. We have to be able to apply a concept before we analyze it. We have to analyze a concept before we can evaluate it. We have to remember, understand, apply, analyze, and evaluate a concept before we can create.
