There are many things I could do for service, but I knew I wanted to work with kids. I just did not know where that would be. School? Church? Tutoring?

Our belief is simple: Set high standards, make expectations clear, provide meaningful instruction, and watch children excel. Every student is given the tools for success—in and out of the classroom. With a commitment to hard work, good citizenship, and personal responsibility, students at Fortis Academy experience a safe, secure learning environment where achievement thrives.

Fortis a charter school in Ypsilanti, MI for grades K-8 At Fortis, students are to wear a uniform that is neat, modest, and not a distraction to others. As far as transportation, there is not a bus that picks children up or drops children off from their homes. Instead, parents are to pick their children up at Fortis or arrange a carpool with another person.

A charter school is like a public school funded by state tax dollars. Instead of having a school district or being dependent upon other schools, Fortis is an independently operated public school that is overseen by their charter sponsor, the school board, and parents. It is also an NHA or National Heritage Academics school which means it is a public service to everyone and that tuition is non- existent because it is a free, state funded school open to all students in grades K-8.

1.How many of you had students come in and help out in the classroom when you were younger? 2. How many of you have been the student helping out in the classroom? 3. At the beginning of the course, how many of you thought that your service would not impact you a great deal?
