Why Do DONUTS Have H LES? Animated and Directed by: Marvzielo All Rights reserved 2006

What’s a Donut? Doughnut / Donut – Is a deep- fried piece of dough or batter.

Two types of Donuts: * Ring Doughnut: * Filled Doughnut Flattened sphere injected with jam/jelly, cream, custard or another sweet filling. Torus-shaped

How to make Donuts? Doughnuts can be made by using a yeast based dough, or a special type of cake batter. Cake Doughnuts are fried for about 90 seconds turning once at between 190 and 198 degrees Celsius. Yeast raised doughnuts take longer to fry about 150 seconds at 182 to 190 degrees Celsius.

Toppings! After being Fried, ring Doughnuts are often topped with glazed icing or a powder such as cinnamon or sugar. Ringless doughnuts such as fritters and jelly doughnuts may be glazed or injected with jam or custard.

History: One theory is that they were introduced into North America by Dutch settlers, who are responsible for popularizing other dessert, including cookies, cream pie, and cobbler. Another possible origin, has the dessert’s invention as part of the story of Channuhkah.

The story of the Hole. Another story credits the invention of the doughnut hole to a Danish sea captain named Hanson Gregory.

Eating Tips: TIP #1 In order to properly eat a doughnut you need some liquids to wash it down. Coffee, Milk, and Mountain Dew are the three most widely accepted doughnut chaser with coffee and milk having the added value of ‘dunkability.’

Eating Tips: TIP #2 Water, tea and wine are generally considered inappropriate for doughnuts although there is still some debate over drinking beer with them.

Eating Tips: TIP #3 If you’re going out for a late night or very early morning doughnut run, even if you’re just going to the drive- through, make sure you’re wearing pants.

Eating Tips: TIP #4 Remember that most doughnuts are usually made at 3 or 4 a.m. and are most delicious at that time.

Eating Tips: TIP #5 Look for the Hot Light at Krispy Kreme. It’s not just a marketing gimmick, they really are hot and fresh when the light is on..

I’m here to stay! Q: What’s up with the hole? A: DONUTs would not cook fully without a hole in the center. In short, the consistency of a donut lacking a whole would be, quite simply, doughy.
