determined (Page 7) Definition: Having or showing a strong will for sticking to a purpose Sentence : Neil Armstrong was determined to become an astronaut, and never gave up.

earned (page 16) Definition: to gain something in return for work or service Sentence: Neil earned money by working many small jobs, such as mowing the cemetery lawn and baking doughnuts, so that he could take flying lessons.

settled (page 7) Definition: To make a home in a place Sentence: Ralphie, our new dog, settled into our home very quickly and easily.

tight (page 17) Definition: Affected by scarcity and expensive to borrow; being able to afford little. Sentence: We are not poor, but money is so tight that we cannot afford furniture for our new house yet.

confessed (page 9) Definition: to tell the truth about something. Sentence: The man had later confessed that he was afraid while he was riding in the old plane.

caring (page 7) Definition: to protect or supervise someone or something Sentence: The mother spent her time caring for her children when they were younger.

model (page 12) Definition: a smaller representation of something used to show details or how it is made. Sentence: Neil enjoyed making model airplanes, then throwing them out of the window of his bedroom, when he was a boy.

part-time (page 15) Definition: less than the full work day or school day Sentence: Many people have part- time jobs to earn extra money.

identified (page 13) Definition: recognized something Sentence: Neil knew a lot about planes and could have identified many of them if he saw them fly over.

arrangement (page 17) Definition: the thing arranged or agreed to; a plan Sentence: Neil had an arrangement to serve in the U.S. Navy in return for scholarship money for college.
