1 0606.3.9 Graph ordered pairs of integers in all four quadrants of the Cartesian coordinate system.
I CAN graph ordered pairs in ALL four quadrants!!!

2 11-3 Vocabulary coordinate plane axes x-axis y-axis quadrants origin
coordinates x-coordinate y-coordinate 2

3 The two number lines are called the axes.
A coordinate plane is formed by two number lines in a plane that intersect at right angles. The point of intersection is the zero on each number line. The two number lines are called the axes. 3

4 The horizontal axis is called the x-axis.
A coordinate plane is formed by two number lines in a plane that intersect at right angles. The point of intersection is the zero on each number line. The horizontal axis is called the x-axis. 4

5 The vertical axis is called the y-axis.
A coordinate plane is formed by two number lines in a plane that intersect at right angles. The point of intersection is the zero on each number line. The vertical axis is called the y-axis. 5

6 The two axes divide the coordinate plane into four quadrants.
A coordinate plane is formed by two number lines in a plane that intersect at right angles. The point of intersection is the zero on each number line. The two axes divide the coordinate plane into four quadrants. 6

7 The point where the axes intersect is called the origin.
A coordinate plane is formed by two number lines in a plane that intersect at right angles. The point of intersection is the zero on each number line. The point where the axes intersect is called the origin. 7

8 The ordered pair for the origin is (0,0).
An ordered pair gives the location of a point on a coordinate plane. The first number tells how far to move right (positive) or left (negative) from the origin. The second number tells how far to move up (positive) or down (negative). The numbers in an ordered pair are called coordinates. The first number is called the x-coordinate. The second number is called the y-coordinate. The ordered pair for the origin is (0,0). 8

9 First you have to move the ladder towards what you want to clime
Have you ever used a ladder? First you have to move the ladder towards what you want to clime Second, you climb up

10 First you have to go over and into the elevator
Or used an elevator? First you have to go over and into the elevator Then you go up or down

11 Coordinate Grids are the Same!

12 Watch Coordinate Plane Brain Pop

13 We use a coordinate system on earth to find exact locations
We use a coordinate system on earth to find exact locations. The equator is like the x-axis, and the prime meridian is like the y-axis. The lines that run east-west are lines of latitude. They are measured in degrees north and south of the equator. The lines that run north-south are lines of longitude. They are measured in degrees east and west of the prime meridian. y-axis x-axis origin

14 Give the coordinates for point X
From the origin, X is 4 units right and 1 unit down. (4, –1)‏ 14

15 Give the coordinates of each point?
B (1, 2) C (0, -2) D (-2, -3)

16 1. Which location in Texas is closest to the ordered pair (5, 2)?
Galveston 2. Which location in Texas is closest to the ordered pair (6, 1)? El Paso 3. What ordered pair best describes the location of Dallas, Texas? (3, 2) 4. Which place in Texas is located in Quadrant III of this coordinate plane? Big Bend National Park

17 Graph the following coordinates.
B (-8, 3) C (-8, 0) D (-4, 0) E (-4, -3) F (-8, -3) G (2, 3) H (-2, 3) I (-2, -3) J (2, -3) K (4, -3) L (4, 3) M (6, 0) N (8, 3) O (8, -3)

19 Choices of Picture & Grade:
Choices for the picture could be one of the following: Animals Letters / Words Name / Initials Flowers You have a choice of what grade you want to earn: A: drawing in all four quadrants and have at least 3 or more stops B: drawing in all four quadrants and have at least 1 or 2 stops C: drawing in all four quadrants and no stops D: not in all four quadrants

20 GRAPH PROJECT PROCEDURES SPI 0606. 3
GRAPH PROJECT PROCEDURES SPI I can graph ordered pairs of integers in all four quadrants. DUE Monday, October 17, 2011 Rough draft of your picture. Rough draft picture approved by the teacher. After teacher approval put dots/points where they belong and label them for capital letters. Write your letters on the side of the paper in order, including stops. Write the ordered pair and the matching letter. 2nd sheet of graph paper - plot your points and connect. List ordered pairs (coordinates) on a separate piece of paper. This will be exchanged with other students. On Monday you will turn in rough draft, final picture, and ordered pairs (coordinates).

21 Closure Turn to your shoulder partner and explain how the graphing project meets the objective for today!!!!
