5. Top Cover Removal
1. Put the handle down and lift up the top cover lid. Locate the two large phillip’s head screws inside and remove them completely.
2. Lift up the handle and remove the small phillip's head screw on the left side of the machine.
3. Raise the handle and start to lift up on the left side of the top cover. As you lift up be careful of the clip that holds the top cover firmly to the front panel. Continue to lift up and bring the top cover towards the back of the machine to free it from the handle unit. 1

6. Bed Cover & Base Plate Removal
1. Slide the accessory box off of the machine by pulling it to the left.
2. Gently lay the machine down on the back cover and locate the two screws that hold the bed cover to the machine. Remove these 2 set screws.
3. Pull down on the end of the cover and very gently start to slide the bed cover to the left. Be careful how you pull it because there are wires underneath and you do not want to scratch or cut them.
4. Locate the four screws on the base plate. Remove them completely and pull the plate off towards you. 2

7. Belt Cover Removal
1. Lift the handle up and locate the small phillip’s head screw on the right hand side at the top of the belt cover. Just loosen this screw.
2. Look at the right side of the machine and locate the small white cap below the hand wheel. Using a needle or tiny flat-head screwdriver, carefully remove this cap. Remove the philip’s head screw behind the cap.
3. Gently lay the machine down on it’s back and locate the two phillip’s head screws that are holding the bottom part of the bed cover to the casting. Just loosen these screws.
4. Stand the machine up and grab the top of the belt cover from the rear and start to pull it towards the front of the machine. Release the belt cover from the front panel and remove completely. 3

8. Front Panel Removal
1. Open the face plate on the left side of the machine and locate the small phillip’s head screw that is holding the front panel to the casting. Just loosen this screw.
2. At the upper right hand side of the front panel there is a phillip’s head screw that needs to be loosened.
3. Loosen the phillip’s screw at the upper left hand side of the front panel directly in front of the tension unit.
4. Looking through the right hand side of the machine, there is a screw that is in the inside. Loosen this phillip’s screw. 4

9. Front Panel Removal
5. Gently lay the machine down and loosen the two philip’s head screws that hold the bottom of the panel to the casting.
6. Lightly pull on the right side of the front cover towards you. 5

10. Front Panel Removal
7. Using a blunt-tipped screwdriver, gently push down on both of the open holes of the casting. This is where the front cover meets the rear cover. As you pull out on the right-hand side of the front panel, push down on these two openings. This will safely release the front cover from the machine.
8. Once the front panel is loose from the machine, take a look at the plugs. Some connections have no plugs in them and some plugs are a different color from the connections they go to.
Unplug only the wires that hold it front panel to the machine so the panel is free from the machine, 6

12. ‘A’ Board Removal
1. Very gently hook your finger under the flexible cable and very gently lift it up being careful to only remove the flexible cable and not the port on the ‘A’ board.
2. Very gently and extremely carefully, slide the black locking tab that holds the flexible cable to the ‘A’ board upwards, and slide the cable out. Do not remove the black tab. It is supposed to just loosen from the ‘A’ board, not come off.
3. Unplug the four remaining wires from the ‘A’ board. Follow this by removing the 4 phillip’s screws on each corner of the board. Remove the ‘A’ board from the machine. 8

14. Touch Panel, LCD Unit, and LED Glass Removal & Installation
1. Remove the 2 cardboard insulators from the front panel.
2. Remove the 5 set screws that hold both the decoration frame & panel to the front panel.
3. Remove the decoration frame & decoration panel. 10

4. Remove the 2 set screws that hold the touch panel guide plate to the cover and remove the plate.
5. Remove the remaining 6 screws that hold the touch panel to the front cover.
6. Gently lift up on the touch panel. Take care not to scratch the LCD unit directly behind it. 11

7. Very gently lift up on the corner of the touch panel releasing it from the frame. Carefully work your way around all the sides. Remove any tape residue that may be on the metal frame.
8. Attach 1/8” double-stick tape on the outer edge on 3 sides of the new touch panel. Only attach tape to the sides and top of the panel (by the flexible cable), not the bottom.
9. Align and attach (shiny side up) the black touch panel sheet to the bottom of the touch panel. Lay another piece of double-stick tape, about 1 1/2” long to the bottom edge of the sheet 12

10. Align the touch panel unit to the frame and slide it inwards so the panel touches the two metal prongs of the frame.
11. Make sure the touch panel is aligned with all 4 sides of the frame and securely push the edges of the panel to the frame. Wipe off any fingerprints or smudges on both sides of the panel with a very soft cloth.
12. Gently lift up on the LCD unit releasing the tape from the panel. Remove any tape residue that may remain on the front cover. 13

13. Attach 1/8” double-stick tape on the outer edge on the 3 sides of the new LCD unit.
14. Gently lay the LCD unit onto the front panel and lightly push on the edge of the panel to secure it in place. Wipe off any fingerprints or smudges with a very soft cloth.
15. Carefully lift up on the LED glass and remove the white backing paper. Replace the LED glass with 1/8” double-stick tape on the top & bottom of the glass. 14

16. When reattaching the touch panel unit to the front panel, make sure the flat, flexible cable is sticking thru both the metal frame and front panel. Be carefull not to pinch or damge the cable.
17. Reattach the decoration frame & decoration panel.
18. Reattach the 6 phillip’s set screws that hold the frame & panel to the front cover. 15

20. Touch Panel, LCD Unit, and LED Glass Removal & Installation
19. Reattach the touch panel guide plate and the 2 screws that hold this to the cover. Follow this by replacing the remaining 5 screws.
20. Reattach the 2 cardboard insulators to the front panel.
21. Place the ‘A’ board back onto the front panel and attach the 4 set screws on the outer corners of the board.
Plug the 9 wires into the board. 16

21. ‘B’ Board Removal & Installation
1. Remove the 2 large phillip’s set screws that hold the ‘B’ board to the machine and the smaller phillip’s set screw that holds the metal wire guide plate in place.
2. If the wires are pinched, unplug the connector from the ‘A’ board and pull it thru the plastic wire guide.
3. If the wires are fine but the ‘B’ board still needs replacing, unplug the wire directly from the ‘B’ board.
4. Plug the connector into the new board. Replace the 2 phillip’s screws that hold the board to the machine along with the metal wire guide plate & set screw. 17

22. Tension Unit Removal & Adjustments
1. Locate and remove the phillip’s head set screw directly behind the large white gear on the tension unit.
2. Remove the phillip’s screw on the side of the tension unit directly below the check spring.
3. Cut the zip tie that holds the cables to the casting.
4. Using a small flathead screwdriver, bend the metal tabs upwards. 18

23. Tension Unit Removal & Adjustments
5. Follow the wires to the back of the machine and unplug it from the ‘U1’ board.
6. Make sure the tension discs are clean and don’t have any debris caught between them. Dirty discs can cause thread breakages & poor tension.
7. Reset the tension by turning the small, silver screw on the side of the unit all of the way towards the plus (or counter-clockwise). Now set it by turning it clockwise 1 1/2 full rotations (or 16 ‘clicks’). You should see about 2 vertical lines on the small white gear. A new tension unit will already be set to factory specs. 19

24. Tension Unit Removal & Adjustments
8. Push the thread check set plate inwards. The set plate should not touch the sides or back of the sensor. If it does, carefully reshape the metal bracket the sensor is attached to with a pair of pliers.
9. Turn the white gear so the metal bracket is riding on top of the white bump of the gear. This opens the tension discs and lets the machine know when to cut the thread.
10. Notice the set plate going thru the second sensor. This set plate should not touch the sides or back of the sensor. If it does, carefully reshape the metal bracket the sensor is attached to with a pair of pliers. 20

25. Rear Cover Removal 1. Unplug the LED lamp wire from the face plate.
2. Loosen the 2 phillip’s set screws that hold the rear cover to the machine.
3. Remove the 4 set screws on the rear cover. The two longer screws are at the top and the 2 shorter screws hold the bottom of the rear cover to the machine. 21

26. Rear Cover Removal
4. Unplug both the blue & white LED lamp wires to the ‘U1’ board.
5. Carefully pull the rear cover outwards towards the back. Do not remove the cover yet.
6. Push the inside section downwards so the cover does not damage the presser foot step motor wires. 22

27. Presser Ft. Step Motor Removal, Installation, and Adjustments
1. If the presser foot step motor constantly jams, it may need replacing. Remove the plastic wire guide.
2. Unplug the 4 wires from the ‘U1’ board.
3. Locate and remove the 2 large set screws that hold the presser foot step motor sensor unit in place. Let it hang off of the machine.
4. Remove the 4 large phillip’s screws that hold the presser foot step motor unit onto the machine. 23

28. Presser Ft. Step Motor Removal, Installation, and Adjustments
5. Carefully remove the step motor unit from the machine. Do not remove the large white gear from the machine.
6. Remove the silver washer if it stuck to the gear. It is not necessary to remove the large white gear.
7. Remove the large gear from the new step motor unit. Make sure the spring & washer are still on the unit.
8. Carefully attach the step motor unit to the machine. The black post needs to fit inside the gear. 24

29. Presser Ft. Step Motor Removal, Installation, and Adjustments
9. Inspect the presser foot step motor sensor for any damage or debris. If it is damaged in any way, it will not read correctly and therefore jam.
10. Clean the presser foot step motor shield plate from debris. This shield plate has small ‘slots’ drilled within it.
11. When attaching the sensor unit, the shield plate needs to be closer toe the right side of the sensor when looking in from the back of the machine. To adjust the position, you move the entire sensor unit left or right, not the shield plate. After aligning, tighten the 2 large phillip’s set screws that hold this unit to the machine. 25

30. Power Switching Regulator Unit Removal and Installation
2. Loosen the phillip’s set screw that holds the plastic wire guide in place and remove the guide.
1. Remove the 3 phllip’s set screws that hold this unit to the machine. Once remove, the unit will slide outwards.
3. Unplug the wire towards the top of the power supply. 26

31. Power Switching Regulator Unit Removal and Installation
4. After installing the new power supply, guide the wires behind the plastic wire guide. Be careful not to pinch the wires.
5. Plug the wire back into the power supply and replace the 3 phillip’s set screws. 27

32. Needle Plate Microswitch Adjustment
1. Remove the entire presser foot unit and needle.
2. Locate the needle plate release post on the bottom of the machine.
3. Using the butt-end of your screwdriver, push the post upwards to release the needle plate.
4. Turn the machine around and remove the large flathead and phillip’s head set screws that hold the free arm cover to the machine. 28

33. Needle Plate Microswitch Adjustment
5. Carefully slide the free arm cover to the left and then upwards to release it from the machine.
6. Reattach the needle plate making sure the needle plate posts are under the springs on the thread cutter.

7. The top of the surface of the microswitch bracket and bottom surface of the needle plate should be 11.5mm.
8. If an adjustment is needed, loosen the two 1.5mm set screws and move the microswitch unit up or down accordingly. Tighten the 2 screws and recheck the position. 29

34. Auto Thread Cutter Removal, Installation,
and Adjustments mm
1. With the machine off, extend the thread cutter by pushing the cutter to the right. Turn on the machine to reset it. The distance between the thread cutter plate slit and edge of the long extending blades should be .4 – 1.2mm.
2. If an adjustment is needed, loosen the phillip’s set screw and move the microswitch to the front or back of the machine and tighten the screw. Turn the machine on to reset it. Make sure the thread cutter gears are clean and free from any lint. 30

3. Remove the 3 phillip’s set screws that hold the thread cutter onto the machine.
4. As you remove the thread cutter you will notice that the thread cutter step motor is attached to it. In order to separate the cutter from the step motor, remove the two small phillip’s head screws from the top of the thread cutter.
5. Notice that the screws come off with two supporting posts. The step motor is still connected to the machine.
6. Manually extract the hooks to see if it moves smoothly. Clean this area from any lint build up or debris. 31

and Adjustments

7. If the thread has trouble cutting or doesn’t cut either the top or bottom, you can loosen the screw for the plate knife adjustments. Loosen the screw and angle the tips of the knives towards the extending knives.
8. Make sure to line up the black post on the thread cutter.
9. Attach the silver posts and matching set screws that hold the thread cutter to the step motor.
10. If you still need to replace the thread cutter unit, follow the wires along the underside of the machine. Clip the zip ties that hold the wires and unplug it from the ‘A’ board. 32

37. Base Cover Removal
1. Remove the 2 large phillip’s screws that hold the bottom arm sole to the machine.
2. Remove the small, black, phillip’s screw on the end of the free arm. The metal bracket will come off with the screw.
3. Remove the 2 phillip’s set screws & washers that hold the metal rail in place. Be sure to hold the rail in place when you remove the last screw, as it will fall.
4. Remove the last remaining screw that holds on the back of the base cover. 33

38. Base Cover Removal 5. Remember how & where the screws and washers are.
6. Remove the last 2 remaining screws. Make sure you hold the base cover when you remove these 2 screws.
7. Unplug the base unit connector that plugs into the ‘U2’ board and carefully remove the base cover. 34

39. Feed Dog Drop Step Motor Removal, Installation, and Adjustments
8. Now that you have the feed dog drop step motor exposed, remove the 2 large phillip’s screws that hold it into the machine.
9. If your step motor is jamming, make sure this spring is not laying on top of the screw. If it is, take a pair of pliers and pinch the spring downward so it rests against the screw.
10. Turn the large white gear and make sure the silver bracket pushes up against the microswitch. If it is working correctly, you will hear a light ‘click’. 35

40. Feed Dog Drop Step Motor Removal, Installation, and Adjustments
11. When reattaching the feed dog drop step motor, align the metal arm into the slot of the driving bracket.
12. If the step motor continues to jam, loosen the set screw that hold the microswitch in place. Once loosened, you can move the microswitch either to the left or right. Tighten the screw and turn the machine on to reset it. 36

41. Base Cover Installation
1. Align the base cover with the machine. Replace the 2 screws that hold this cover to the metal arm sole.
2. Replace the 2 large phillip’s screws that hold the bottom arm sole to the machine.
3. Plug the base unit wire into the ‘U2’ board.
4. Align the metal rail with the machine and replace small, black, phillip’s screw and bracket on the end of the free arm. 37

42. Base Cover Installation
5. Replace the small screw on the back of the base cover.
6. Replace the 2 phillip’s set screws & washers. 38

43. DC Motor Removal & Installation
1. Slide the motor belt off of the handwheel.
2. Unplug the motor from the ‘A’ board.

3. Locate and remove the 2 phillip’s screws that hold the motor to the machine. Carefully remove the motor.
4. The motor belt should have 5mm deflection with about 200 grams of pressure while pushing in the middle of the belt. 39

44. Rear Cover Installation
1. Start to attach the rear cover by starting with the aligning the bottom of the rear cover with the free arm.
2. As you start to attach the cover, push down on the inside of the panel by the LED lamp to avoid damaging the presser foot step motor wires.
3. Be careful not to get the wires pinched behind the rear cover post.
4. Connect the both the blue & white LED lamp wires. 40

45. Rear Cover Installation
5. Tighten the 2 phillip’s screws that hold the rear cover to the machine. 1 screw is located at the top directly above the face plate hinge. The other screw is behind the buttonhole lever.
Plug the face plate LED lamp connector.
6. Replace the 2 long screws at the top and the 2 short screws towards the bottom. 41

46. Front Panel Installation
1. Align the front panel with the machine. Plug the remaining wires into the ‘A’ board.
2. It’s best to start from the bottom and work your way up. When pushing the front cover into the machine, make sure there are no gaps between the panels. 42

3. Gently lay the machine down and tighten the two philip’s head screws that hold the bottom of the panel to the casting.
4. While lightly pushing in on the front panel, tighten the phillip’s screw on the right-hand side directly in front of the handle.
5. Tighten the phillip’s screw at the upper left hand side of the front panel directly in front of the tension unit. 43

48. Front Panel Installation
6. Open the face plate on the left side of the machine and locate the small phillip’s head screw that is holding the front panel to the casting. Just loosen this screw.
7. Tighten the phillip’s screw located within the machine below the handwheel. 44

49. Needle Position (Front-to-Back) Adjustment
1. Turn the hand wheel towards you to bring the needle within the needle plate hole. The needle should be directly in the middle of hole.
2. Loosen the 2mm hexagon set screw. Grab the top of the needle bar supporter to pivot the needle either towards the front or back of the needle plate hole to align it. Tighten the 2mm set screw and recheck needle position. 45

50. Needle Position (Left-to-Right) Adjustment
1. When the needle is in center-needle, straight stitch position, the needle should be in the center of the needle plate hole.
2. If an adjustment is needed, turn the machine on and select stitch #1 which is center-needle, straight stitch position.
3. Loosen the 1.5mm hex screw between the needle threader lever and needle threader guide plate.
4. Turn the eccentric screw to align the needle with the needle plate hole. Tighten the 1.5mm set screw. 46

51. Feed Dog Height Adjustment This is a counter-threaded set screw
mm above the surface of the needle plate.
1. When the feed dogs are in their highest position, they should be parallel with the needle plate and mm above the surface of the plate. They should not be pointing upwards or downwards.
2. To adjust the rear section of the feed dogs, locate and loosen the phillip’s set screw directly above the thread cutter step motor.
This is a counter-threaded set screw
3. Turn this small adjusting screw clockwise to raise and counter-clockwise to lower the rear section of the feed dogs. Do not loosen the hexagon nut. Tighten the locking set screw.
4. To adjust the front section of the feed dogs, locate and loosen the phillip’s set screw set deep within the access hole.
* This is a counter-threaded screw * 47

52. Feed Dog Height Adjustment

5. Locate the empty-threaded 2mm hole.
6. Borrow a 2mm set screw from the lower shaft bushing and insert it into the empty-threaded hole. Turn it clockwise to raise the front-section of the feed dogs. Tighten the counter-thread screw and replace the 2mm set screw.
7. Recheck the height & position of the feed dogs. Keep in mind that when you raise the front of the feed dogs, the rear will also slightly raise. When you lower either section of the feed dogs, the opposite section will also slightly lower. 48

53. Needle-to-Feed Timing Adjustment
1. Loosen the phillip’s screw that holds the idler which provides tension on the timing belt. Push the idler out of the way.
2. Slide the timing belt off of the lower shaft gear.
3. Turn the hand wheel towards you so the tip of the needle is touching the surface of the needle plate.
4. Turn the lower shaft towards you so the feed dogs are level with the top of the needle plate when going in their downward rotation. 49

54. Needle-to-Feed Timing Adjustment
5. This picture shows the tip of the needle flush with the top of the needle plate and the feed dogs flush with the top of the needle plate when going in their downward rotation.
6. While holding the hand wheel in place with one hand, slide the timing belt onto the lower shaft with the other hand.

7. Place the idler back into position and tighten the screw.
8. While pushing on the middle of the belt, there should be about 7mm deflection. 50

55. Needle Bar Height Adjustment
1. Turn on the machine and select stitch #1 (straight stitch, center needle position).
2. Follow this by removing the needle plate, bobbin case, and needle.
3. Attach the needle bar height gauge. Make sure the gauge is inserted completely.
4. Insert the needle bar height & timing gauge. Make sure the tip of the hook touches the flat end of the gauge. 51

56. Needle Bar Height Adjustment
5. Turn the hand wheel towards you to lower the needle.
6. As the needle comes down in its lowest position, it should *very lightly* skim the top of the gauge.
7. If an adjustment is needed, loosen the 2mm set screw that holds the needle bar in place. Raise or lower the needle bar accordingly and tighten the screw. Repeat steps 5 & 6. 52

57. Hook-to-Needle Timing Adjustment
The distance between the top of the eye of the needle and the hook race should be about 1.6 to 2.0 mm when the tip of the hook touches the right side of the needle when the needle is in the center position.
1. Remove the needle bar height gauge and install the hook timing gauge. Make sure this timing needle gauge is fully inserted.
2. Make sure the tip of the hook touches the flat end of the gauge. This is necessary for both proper timing checks and adjustments.
3. While slowly turning the hand wheel towards you, the needle starts to come down. When the needle is in its lowest position, it should touch the middle of the red line of the gauge. If the needle hits or is before or after the line on the gauge, an adjustment must be made. 53

58. Hook-to-Needle Timing Adjustment
The distance between the top of the eye of the needle and the hook race should be about 1.6 to 2.0 mm when the tip of the hook touches the right side of the needle when the needle is in the center position.
4. Locate the two 2.5mm hexagon screws holding the timing gear to the lower shaft.
5. Using a 2.5mm hex screwdriver, loosen both screws. While holding the hand wheel, use your screwdriver as leverage to adjust hook timing and tighten the 1 screw.
6. Recheck timing. If the adjustment is correct, tighten the second hex screw on the timing gear. 54

59. Hook-to-Needle Clearance Adjustment
1. With the machine off, push the needle bar to the left. Turn the hand wheel to bring the tip of the hook directly behind the needle. The distance between the back of the needle & the tip of the hook should be mm.
2. If an adjustment is needed, locate and loosen the 3 phillip’s head screws on the hook base plate.
3. Push the plate closer or away from the needle to make the necessary adjustment. Tighten the 3 screws.
4. Recheck the distance after adjusting the plate in left, center, and right needle positions. You can use a flathead screwdriver push the needle and see if there is any deflection. 55

60. Hook Backlash Adjustment
1. Hold the hook race with your hand and wiggle it left & right. The hook race should have about .8mm of backlash, or ‘play’.
2. If an adjustment is needed, locate and loosen the 2mm hexagon set screw on the casting.
3. Using a small flathead screwdriver, move the gear either upwards or downwards. Moving the bushing upwards will give the hook more backlash and downwards will give it less backlash.

61. Belt Cover Installation
1. Align the belt cover with the machine and fit it into position.
2. Replace the philip’s head screw directly under the hand wheel followed by the cap.
3. Lift the handle up and tighten the small phillip’s head screw on the right hand side at the top of the belt cover.
4. Gently lay the machine down on it’s back and tighten the two phillip’s head screws that hold the bottom part of the belt cover to the casting. 57

62. Bed Cover & Base Plate Installation
1. Replace the four screws on the base plate.
2. Carefully slide the bed cover back into position. Be careful of the thread cutter wires underneath.
3. Replace the 2 set screws. 58

63. Top Cover Installation
1. With the handle up, carefully place the top cover into position. Make sure the clips lock together.
2. Lower the handle and lift up on the top cover lid. Replace the 2 phillip's head screws.
3. Close the top cover lid and lift up on the handle. Replace the small phillip’s screw on the left side directly under the handle. 59
