CSU-Pueblo Teacher Education Program Technology Overview
2
Technology Impacts Preparing Pre-service Teachers to Meet Technology Standards Technology Resources Web Resources E-Portfolios for Students Online Courses & Modules for Teachers
3
Preparing Pre-service Teachers to Meet Technology Standards To Meet Technology Standards – Courses have been redesigned so CSU-Pueblo students can meet ISTE NETS (Federal Technology Standards) and Colorado Standards for Teachers.
4
Validity & Reliability The process we went through: Validity Phase I Step One: Identify Validation Working Group Step Two: Curriculum Audit And Mapping Initial Curriculum Map
5
Step One: Identify Validation Working Group Develop Validation Process Based Upon Stakeholder Input & Best Practices Develop Tools To Document Progress & Findings
6
Step Two: Curriculum Audit And Mapping For All Courses: Gather Copies of Syllabi, Assignments, & Assessment Tools Link Benchmarks With Assignments & Tools Identify Gaps & Redundancies Document Audit Results Using A Curriculum Map
7
Curriculum Map Map for each standard Matched to each course Utilizing the new rubrics created during our Reliability and Validity study
8
Validity Phase II Align Program Standards With External Standards National (ISTE/NETS) & CO Standards Validity Phase II: Revise Rubrics
9
Validity Phase III Develop Packets Of Student Work Criteria For Selection Of Evidence Convene Diverse Group Of Faculty, K-12 Teachers, And Staff One-Day Session Nine members: Technology Instructor & University Faculty First Year & Master Teachers Experienced K-12 Teachers (Elementary, Secondary) PT3/Title II Staff
10
Phase III Materials Program Inventory/Rubric For Each Standard Packet of Student Work Eight Packets Developed Training Purposes (1) Reliability Assessment (7) Variety Of Materials & Documents Included Different Proficiency Levels (Basic, Developing, Proficient, Advanced) Some Dimensions For Each Rubric Omitted “Dimension” = Row In Rubric Collectively, Rows Comprise A Standard Strengths & Weaknesses
11
Reliability Assessment Training Session Each Rater Independently Evaluated Same Packet Using Revised Rubrics Discussed Agreement, Disagreement Disagreements - Further Revisions Of Rubric Errors In Observing Clarified Actual Session Evaluated Other Packets Of Student Work Four Packets Two Raters Independently Evaluating The Same Packet
12
Reliability Estimation Approaches Informal - Percent Agreement Each Dimension & Standard Not A Traditional Reliability Estimate (e.g., Alpha) Formal - Generalizability Theory (G-Theory) Extends Traditional Test Theory Approach Estimates Multiple Sources of Error (Instead of Lumping All Sources of Error Together) Use To Determine # of Rating Occasions, Raters Needed To Achieve Desired Reliability Results In Reliability Estimate Similar to Traditional Reliability Estimates

Simulations of Actual Teaching Scenarios for Student Teachers Scenarios have been put online in the Virtual School District. These simulations based on Case Studies give pre-service teachers chances to discuss and explore possible real situations and their solutions which they may encounter in the classroom. http://partners.colostate-pueblo.edu/vsd/v_s_dstrct/ http://partners.colostate-pueblo.edu/vsd/v_s_dstrct/
26
E-Portfolios for Students Students design and collect materials during their program and create an online portfolio of their work. These portfolios will be shared with prospective employers and present a representative view of the candidate’s technology skills, as well as their teaching experiences.
27
Online Courses & Modules For Teachers Foundations of Education (ED202) has been put online for distance students, TiR’s, and those who can’t come to campus for courses.
