Electronic Portfolios: Using Technology in Multiple Contexts to Assess Program Outcomes and Enhance Student Learning Scott L. Crabill, Ph.D. Director of Integrative Studies
2
It’s So Easy! E-portfolios are often touted as making a process “easy”
This becomes counterproductive to our efforts as it creates further ambiguity about learning and assessment Students and programs still have to do the work
3
Demystifying E-portfolios
What is an electronic portfolio? How does it improve student learning? How can it be used to assess student learning? How can it be used to assess programs?
4
So what is it? Collection of digital documents/files organized and managed by a student/program Documents/files should be evidence based, as it pertains to student and program outcomes Function as an organizing mechanism that can be accessed by as many or as few people desired
5
Why use them? Allows students/programs to store and organize materials – Freshmen to graduation Versatility of materials that can be used and accessed at one point (text, graphic, audio, video) Access to materials and allows sharing with various audiences
6
How do they work? Image provided by Desire2learn
7
