2. Intended for novice users as an introduction to the online catalog’s capabilities. The guide would be available on the New Brighton Public Library’s website or available at the library, printed as a hand-out for use at home or in-library use. Users would be able to successfully use the online catalog to locate books and perform searches with ease.

4. Next, choose to Search.

5. There are a variety of search options: Author Title Author/Title Subject Keyword Call Number Click on the search option that best fits your need – each will garner different results. I’m going to choose to search by keyword.

6. I chose baking. You can search the entire Beaver County collection or use the drop down menu to specify the library of your choice.

7. You can see that searching the entire collection resulted in 171 matches, most of which are not located at the New Brighton Public Library. But you could visit a neighboring library and check the book out with your card.

8. Narrowing the search to the New Brighton Holdings reduced the results to 22.

9. These results can be sorted by relevance, date, or title, by clicking on the appropriate link. You can see that the results default to sorted by relevance.

10. The heading shows the title of the book, publisher and date of publication. The location of the book is shown, the call number and whether the book is available.

11. Clicking on the call number will show a list of books nearby on the shelf, which lets you browse the library shelf without being there!

12. You can use the check boxes beside the relevant title to mark and save the record, which will allow you to print your list and take it to the library for ease. Then choose whether you save the marked record or save on one page.

13. Clicking on the title provides you a detailed description.

14. Clicking on show similar items will provide books similar to this entry.

15. Once you locate the book(s) from the online catalog, we encourage you to visit us and are looking forward to helping you.
