An Ideal Life

Pharisee- Fame Matthew 23:5-7 5 but all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. 6 they love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, 7 greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘rabbi, rabbi.’

Pharisee- Fame Matthew 6:2 2 therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Pharisee- Fame Matthew 6:5 5 “and when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Pharisee- Fame Matthew 23:27-28 27 “woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Rich Man - Wealth Luke 12:16-21 16 then he spoke a parable to them, saying: “the ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 and he thought within himself, saying, ‘what shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 so he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 and I will say to my soul, “soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 but God said to him, ‘fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 “so is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Rich Man - Wealth Luke 12:19 19 and I will say to my soul, “soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.

Rich Man - Wealth Luke 12:20 20 but God said to him, ‘fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

Rich Man - Wealth 1 Timothy 6:7-10 7 for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 and having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 but those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 for the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Gentiles - Pleasure Romans 1:28 28 and even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

Gentiles - Pleasure 2 Timothy 3:4-5 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

Good Men - Morals Romans 10:3 3 for they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

Good Men - Morals Acts 10:2 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.

Good Men - Morals Acts 11:14 14 who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved. Acts 10:48 48 and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

Paul - Christ Philippians 1:21 21 for to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Galatians 2:20 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Paul - Christ Philippians 3:7-8 7 but what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ

What About You? Philippians 3:13-14 13 brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

What About You? Galatians 6:7-8 7 do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 for he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the spirit will of the spirit reap everlasting life.
