5 Bhai Amar Das Jee was a spiritual genius at the same time of Sri Guru Angad Dev Jee. In his twenties he became interested in Hinduism and became a great pilgrim. Every year for the next forty years he went to the sacred River Ganges, walking barefoot singing divine hymns. Once on his return from a pilgrimage, a Hindu Sadhu (Saint) refused to eat the food served by Bhai Amar Das Jee “as he had no Guru”. Bhai Amardas Jee was deeply affected by this and began his intense search for the Satguru (True Guru). Hands up: How do you think Sri Guru Amar Das Jee felt after he met the Sadhu? 14 Sri Guru Amar Das Jee organised Manjee System Sri Guru Amar Das Jee organised his preachers into 22 teaching districts referred to as "Manji" (lit. a type of seat) he put Bibi Amro Jee in-charge of one of these districts. The person occupying Manji was the Sikh preacher appointed by Sri Guru Amar Das Jee. This appointment can best be compared to the position of Bishop in the Christian Church today. Out of these 146 persons, 94 were men and 52 were women. The Piris were ladies whose objective was to light the flame of the Guru's word and spread the fragrance of Naam among women. Bibi Bhani, Bibi Dani and Bibi Pal were some of the most revered leaders of the different Manjees. As one of the Guru's representatives, Bibi Amro Jee also would have had the responsibility of collecting revenues and making decisions for the welfare of her district. Her Manjee or district included Basarke, her husband's village, where they made their home.
