2. Why COP ² ? Reason One: Citizen Volunteer Programs are fundamental in Community Policing Programs and PPD is committed to Community Policing. Citizen Volunteers give Law Enforcement a perspective we sometimes lose. Citizens often have passions about things most cops don’t think about (blight etc).

3. Why COP ² ? Reason Two: We need you……a lot As the world gets more complex, we need to figure out how to serve the community better. Not faster Not stricter But Better!

4. Why COP ² ? Citizen Volunteers free up officer and staff time so we can focus on things that matter to “Joe and Jane” on the street –Small things can add up to big misery Citizen Volunteers allow us to keep a personal touch with our community Citizen Volunteers often have skills, interests and aptitudes not normally associated with LE (which is a blue collar profession, believe me)

5. The Academy 7 Weeks (give or take, we’ll see). 4 hours per week. Probably a Bi-Annual Occurrence. Lots of Topics. General overview of this Agency. Not necessary to be a COP ², but this is a great start.

6. Before and After You Graduate… As the Academy progresses, we ask that you think about how you would like to help out at PPD. Many VIP’s will want to tray a little of everything before settling in. There are enough jobs for everyone. If you can think of it, you can probably do it.

7. Before and After You Graduate… You will work with Mary Dethman and Captain Michael Boyd to get additional training/ assignment to a “job” at PPD. You will receive more on the job training and updates. If you don’t like your “job”, you can change, no questions asked.

8. Day to Day COP ² Life We ask 4 hours per week. We are VERY flexible regarding vacations etc. We ask that you show up when you say you will, or call. Generally, your hours are dictated by the tasks you perform (i.e. Office assignments takes place during office hours).

9. What kinds of Jobs can COP ² do? Operating the speed watch radar unit. Maintaining patrol units (keeping them clean and supplied). Gathering and assembling materials for training manuals. Doing the paper work for chronic runaways. Handling "cold" petty theft reports.

10. What kinds of Jobs can COP ² do? Handling bicycle theft reports. Picking up found or stolen bicycles. Tagging abandoned vehicles. Graffiti - locating and notifying property owner. Helping with the making and issuing of CD's. Clerical duties and data entry. Courier duties and running errands. Maintaining break room.

11. What kinds of Jobs can COP ² do? Doing vacation home checks and follow-up letters. Assisting in Crime Prevention. Conducting Department tours (Visitors, School Field Trips, Scouts, etc.) Parking Enforcement. Follow-up visits to victims of crimes/vehicle accidents. Non-suspect subpoena service. Special events traffic and crowd control.

12. What kinds of Jobs can COP ² do? Security at school events "Child I.D. Program" Assisting with purging of records, property, and evidence. Assist at directed traffic enforcement details Property Damage Collision Reporting & Associated Forms. Home security inspections and site hardening details. Sex Offender tracking. Cold Case Review. Other tasks to be determined…
