Objective Students will learn to use the Pythagorean to find the length of the various sides of triangles. Then students will find the area of and surface area. Using the Area formula students will apply that knowledge to determine the side lengths and hypotenuse formula. Interactive- Lesson and Interactive Practice Activity. Here students will read the lesson to learn about the Greek philosopher Pythagoras and his discoveries. Students will be introduced to Build with Chrome, a highly interactive program that allows users to create geometric structures with virtual Legos.

Please View Videos Watch and take notes on the Video- YouTube Video that teaches the parts of a triangle and how the Pythagorean Theorem works created by Sergio Alvarez https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wdTkyrUaPHg Animated Video lesson- Students will learn how to make models of triangular prisms based on the pre-determined dimensions. Please discuss when implementing the “Make a Model” strategy is the best choice. http://glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/mathematics/00789 16437/animations/an_g7_ps_makeamodel.swf http://glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/mathematics/00789 16437/animations/an_g7_ps_makeamodel.swf

Interactive Practice Interactive- Lesson and Interactive Practice Activity and online Worksheet. Here you will read the lesson to learn about the Greek philosopher Pythagoras and his discoveries. Then do the Triangle Explorer Activity located at http://shodor.org/interactive/activities/ SquaringTheTriangle/ http://shodor.org/interactive/activities/ SquaringTheTriangle/
6
Hands-On Activity You will use paper or cardboard to build models of structures such as triangular prisms and cylinders. These type of shapes are constructed using mathematical Nets. First, use boxes tracing the outside to explore the type of net that would make certain shapes. Matching Nets- Test your skills at determining the final shape a net will form. This is found at http://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/solid- shapes/net-matching2.pdfhttp://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/solid- shapes/net-matching2.pdf Cutting out and making nets of squares, octagons, and other 3D solid shapes From Math Worksheets 4 Kids http://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/solid-shapes/net-large.png http://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/solid-shapes/net-large.png

Vocabulary & Journaling WordMeaningExample Surface area Prism volume 3D Complete vocabulary in Math Journal using Math Connects Text Lesson 12-1 and 12-2. Remember, put the definition in your own words and provide an example.
8
Build with Chrome Virtual Building Project- Here, you will enter the world of builders. Honing your skills on Surface Area and geometrical figures, you will create your own building. You will give the dimensions of your masterpiece using each block to equal 10 feet in height, and 2 connector pegs equal 10 feet. You will be required to know the Surface Area and Volume of your Creation. In order to have enough, this project will first require you to attend the Build Academy. https://www.buildwithchrome.com/ https://www.buildwithchrome.com/

Test Your Skills Assessment to put your new skills to the test. http://glencoe.mheducation.com/sites/0078740460/stude nt_view0/chapter12/lesson4/self-check_quizzes.html Take the online quiz on using Surface Area formulas. This multiple choice quiz result is sent directly to the instructor’s email. Ernestine.hinson@student.dodea.eduErnestine.hinson@student.dodea.edu
