How do I get to AFS? Access to AFS is possible from centrally managed machines (Realm RedHat, Windows AD) available in labs and remote servers Third party clients: –Putty, WinSCP, ExpanDrive, or other FTP client that supports SFTP Protocol. Remote hosts: –remote.eos.ncsu.edu: COE “shared” remote servers not intended to run multiple jobs –ftp.ncsu.edu (SFTP only)ftp.ncsu.edu

WHAT NOT TO DO Do not install software on “department” computers without checking clickwrap approved list http://software.ncsu.edu/clickwraps DO not run unnecessary services on your RA/TA designated workstation (check with your Faculty) –No Web services –No FTP services –No P2P applications DO NOT store sensitive data (research) on non- approved cloud services. To check what data is considered sensitive and approved cloud services visit: http://oit.ncsu.edu/data-framework Remember: NCSU monitors network

WHAT NOT TO DO (continuation) Don’t be a Phishing Victim –NCSU will never ask you to provide your password. No dual-boot on departmental desktops No Pornography No Piracy: software, music, videos, movies… We regularly receive reports from MPAA / RIAA. All violators will be reported to Dean of Students. All TAs/RAs will have their Advisors notified. The DGP is made aware of all infractions Violations of usage policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action up to dismissal from the program.
