10 Phase 1: before you start  planning  SMART goals  delegation & lines of communication  personnel  organization  deadlines

11 Phase 1: before you start  Get your head in the game!  A good set up is a requirement, not a nice bonus  Solve problems before they start  Do everything on purpose

12 Planning  You are now in love with planning.

13 SMART goals  Specific  Measurable (how can you tell if it worked?)  Attainable (can you pull it off?)  Realistic (really?)  Timely (when does it need to be done? Is now the right time?)  SMART

14 Delegation & lines of communication  You have a team  Who is in charge of what?  SMART jobs  Who do I go to if I have a question? Feedback? An instruction?  Everyone should know who is in charge, who is doing what, and who to talk to.

15 Personnel  Everybody has a job  Are they the best person for their job?  Match jobs to skills and experiences

16 Organization  A place for everything and everything in it’s place  Keeping track of details  You should be able to know exactly what is happening with any part of your project at any time

17 Organizational tools  Lists, graphs, & planners  Google tools  Spreadsheets  Trello  Other project management tools

18 Deadlines  Deadlines make your plan real  You are also in love with deadlines

24 Managing a project is like driving a train  You set up the tracks  You make sure everything goes the way It is supposed to  You fix it when it breaks  You keep going

25 Preparation/groundwork  Laying the rails  A strong foundation will run itself

26 Keeping track  Monitoring  Communication  Tracking details  Keep an eye on deadlines

27 File system  A place for everything and everything in its place  It needs to be easy to find things  Someone else needs to be able to come in and pick up where you left off  SAVE EVERYTHING  EVERYTHING

28 Checking in  Regular  Focused  Are we on track?  What’s going well?  What needs help?  EVEN WHEN THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS

29 Anticipation & back-up plans  This is your job  Keep everything on the rails  Be ready for everything

40 Get it done  Final draft  Final checks  You have responsibility: check everything one last time  Send it off  Have a launch plan  Know what happens next  And send it off

41 Evaluation  If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right  If it’s worth doing, it’s worth evaluating  You learn something every time
