Voyage(s) Information La Salle sailed for the country of France He made 2 voyages He went on his voyages because King Louis XIV(14) sent him to travel south from Canada Mission was to establish fur-trade routes

Voyage #1 The Griffin was LaSalle's only ship. LaSalle left port in France on his first voyage in August 1679. He went back to France around 1680. He explored the Mississippi and Ohio River and claimed the entire Mississippi valley for France.

Voyage #2 In 1681, LaSalle left France in boats. On his second, and final, voyage he explored the Mississippi River.

Interesting Facts He made friends with the Native Americans He got married and had 8 children The Griffin was lost and never seen again. In 1684-1687 in the West Indies, LaSalle felt ill and many of his crew members left him. LaSalle was shot on March 20, 1687 by two of his men in Texas
