5 MANDATE OF GOVERNMENT OF INDIA
The ultimate objective is, “All Cities will have access to and be able to use safe and hygienic sanitation facilities and arrangements so that no one defecates in the open”. The Government of India has identified 100% sanitation as a goal during the 11th Five Year Plan.

6 National Urban Sanitation Policy
Vision: “All Indian cities and towns become totally sanitized, healthy and liveable and ensure and sustain good public health and environmental outcomes for all their citizens with a special focus on hygienic and affordable sanitation facilities for the urban poor and women.” Goals: Awareness Generation and Behavior Change Open Defecation Free Cities Integrated City-Wide Sanitation Sanitary and Safe Disposal Proper Operation & Maintenance of sanitary Installations City Sanitation are a part of NUSP

9 Key sanitation issues in Madhya Pradesh
1 million households in the state do not have access to toilet facilities and therefore defecate in the open. Loss of 2% in GDP due to lack of sanitation related facilities Poor Awareness Social and Occupational aspects of Sanitation Fragmented Institutional Roles and Responsibilities Lack of Integrated City-wide Approach Limited Technology Choices Reaching the Un-served and Poor Lack of Demand Responsiveness The said issues need to be addressed while achieving the vision of URBAN SANITATION in India.

21 Credentials of AIILSG Regional Centre For Urban And Environmental Studies (RCUES) Of AIILSG Is Fully Supported By Ministry Of Urban Development Government Of India (SINCE 1968). AIILSG recognized as a NATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE (NTI) by Ministry Of Urban Development, Government of India for capacity building of trainers, elected members, chief officers, project functionaries, project officers, community organizers, district / state level officers for UBSP in JUNE 1990. AIILSG Recognized As A NODAL TRAINING INSTITUTE For UBSP By Urban Development Department, Government Of Maharashtra in NOVEMBER AIILSG recognized as a NATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE (NTI) by Ministry Of Urban Affairs & Employment, Government of India for capacity building of trainers, elected members, chief officers, functionaries, project officers, community organizers, district / state level officers for SJSRY in NOVEMBER 1997. AIILSG, Gujarat is recognized by Urban Development Department as State Training Institute (Circular No. TLM/112007/CF 67/R DT 6/9/2007) AIILSG is the MEMBER of State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) for the state of Gujarat and Orissa

No.E14012/2/2009- UPAdated 17/6/2009. AIILSG Recognized As A NATIONAL RESOURCE CENTRE By Ministry Of Urban Employment And Poverty Alleviation, Government Of INDIA & UNDP in SEPTEMBER 2005.
