3 Author: What is the author’s point of view? Travis’s point of view is that we needed more troops to help defend the Alamo’s walls.

4 Place and Time: Where Was the Document Produced? This document was produced inside the Alamo’s walls.

5 Place and Time: When was the Document Produced? Travis’s letter was produced on February 24,1836.

6 Prior Knowledge: What Do You Already Know About This Topic? I knew that our army was going to be outnumbered. Also, I knew that eventually, we were going to need to send for help.

7 Audience: For Whom Was This Document Created? This document was created for the People of Texas and all Americans in the World.

8 Reason: Why Was This Document Created? This document was created so the people of Texas would come to the aid of our soldiers in the Alamo.

9 The Main Idea: What Point Was The Document Trying To Make? This document was trying to prove that without the people’s help, we could lose the Alamo and we might not be free from Mexico.

10 Significance: Why is This Document Important? This document is important because if Travis hadn’t written this letter, the people of Texas wouldn’t have known what kind of trouble we were in at the Alamo.

11 Character Pillars William Barrett Travis Showed: Trust - Travis showed trust in the Texas Army by believing they would be there to help them. Caring- William Barrett Travis cared about Texas’s independence and the Alamo, along with his soldiers. Responsibility- Travis was responsible because he led the Texas troops during the fight. Respect- Travis showed respect by treating the Mexican Army with respect. Citizenship- Travis showed good citizenship by putting his life on the line for Texas’ Independence. Fairness- William B. Travis showed fairness by treating all of his soldiers and volunteers equally.
