The Spanish people started building it in 1724 The soldiers gave the Alamo its name and it means “cottonwood”

After Mexico became independent from Spain they occupied the Alamo

Texas was a part of Mexico although Texas did not want to be.

In 1835 Texan people occupied the Alamo as part of the Texan Revolution. The government of Mexico did not like this and in 1936 about 6,000 Mexican soldiers came to take it back.

There were 6,000 Mexican soldiers against 200 Texan soldiers in the battle from February 23 to March 6, 1836. The soldiers held out for 13 days on the 14 th day they lost against Mexico

Because the Texan people held out for 13 days and they believed in themselves. That year they declared themselves independent.
