What is a Joint? Any place where two or more bones meet
Classified as immovable or movable

Immovable Joints This joint doesn’t move
- Located in the skull (picture) and ribs This joint doesn’t move - When the bones fuse together it is called a suture

Ball and Socket The ball and socket joint allow you to move at a 360° rotation. (Hip and Shoulder) This joint allows for the most range of motion

Pivot Joint This allows one joint to rotate around another
Picture a basketball player that pivots on one foot so not to travel Located in forearm and neck

Hinge Joint Knee, elbow, and fingers Move in only 1 direction
Open and shut like a door Elbow

Gliding Joint This joint allows one bone to slide over another
Located in between your vertebrae and your wrists and ankles
