Vaccinations against infectious diseases in man and animal Three themes and corresponding study groups were identified at the Brussels Conference in November 2006: Strategies of vaccination – strength in diversity Co-chairs: Roman Prymula (Czech Republic), George Saroglou (Greece),Paolo Villari (Italy) Unmet public health and animal needs Co-chairs: Adrian Hill (United Kingdom) and Paul-Pierre Pastoret (Belgium) Public Engagement Co-chairs: Joost Ruitenberg (The Netherlands) and Maria-Céu Machado (Portugal)

Vaccinations against infectious diseases in man and animal Main activities (from December 2007 to November 2010): 4 public events to be organised with the support of the national academies concerned and the relevant EU Presidencies: December 2007: launch in Lisbon September 2008: public plenary meeting in Paris June 2009: public plenary meeting in Prague November 2010: public plenary meeting in Brussels and end of the project 3 reports and 1 layman information leaflet to be presented at the public plenary meetings: September 2008: presentation of the first annual report June 2009: presentation of the second annual report and the information leaflet November 2010: presentation of the final synthesis report 1 website for internal and external communications

Vaccinations against infectious diseases in man and animal FEAM proposal divided into 6 work packages: 1.WP1: strategies of vaccination – strength in diversity 2.WP2: unmet public and animal health needs 3.WP3: public engagement Compulsory, horizontal packages: 1.WP4: coordination of the project 2.WP5: dissemination of the project (including the 4 public events) 3.WP6: evaluation of the project (including the Evaluation group) Main, associated and collaborating partners: Main partner: FEAM Associated partners: –organisation of expert meetings, hosting of conferences, elaboration of reports –Contractual relationship with FEAM and EC –Costs incurred included in the budget and travel expense of experts covered (if included in proposal) –Contribution in kind from experts who are public officials as source of income Collaborating partner –No contractual relationship, no costs covered –Travel expenses of experts covered (if included in proposal)

Vaccinations against infectious diseases in man and animal Budget Approximately 1.800.000 euros (over 3 years) EC Public Health Programme 2003-2008 is based on co-financing: up to 60% for most selected projects up to 80% for projects with significant EU-added value Sources of income to cover the 20 to 40% co-financing from FEAM and Partners: Contribution in kind from public officials Private sponsorship Without EC funds, the programme will have to be reviewed extensively.
