1830 – The Indian Removal Act – Trail of Tears – forced relocation of tribes - federal army forced tribes west of Mississippi River to the “Indian Territory” - 17,000 Cherokee travel; 4000 Cherokee die on trail - most walked and lacked supplies, blankets, shoes, etc
