HUMAN POPULATION GROWTH ACOS#16.) Identify density-dependent and density- independent limiting factors that affect populations in an ecosystem.
2
Bell Ringer On your note card given to you by Ms. Clayton- Question- Think about how the size of the human population has changed over time and explain to me why population growth rates differ from country to country. This should be 2-3 sentences in length and have your name on the opposite side as your answer
3
Explain to me what is happening here...
4
Patterns of Population Growth D emography- the scientific study of human populations D emographic transitions- a dramatic change in birth and death rates
5
Age-structure diagram What is going on here? Broad-based pyramids like India's are characteristic of: populations with high birth rates low life expectancies (where many people die before reaching old age); advances in public health have recently reduced infant and childhood mortality
6
Video on population growth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BbkQiQyaYc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BbkQiQyaYc
7
Future Population Growth How could you predict future population growth? Is it possible? How are we able to maintain this growth? Birthrates, death rates, and the age structure of a population help predict the rate of population growth.

Class Activity TEST REVIEW 1. Be able to define and know the difference between immigration & emigration 2. Be able to define limiting factors and know they slow the growth of a population 3. Logistic and exponential growth- Know the shape and general definition of both 4. Know the definition of carrying capacity 5. Be able to define population density 6. Density Independent and Density Dependent- be able to give and recognize examples 7. Know the effect of birth rate and death rate on a population at carrying capacity 8. Birth rate= death rate <--- This is known as carrying capacity
