5 College Preparation OHS recommends the following courses for COLLEGE preparedness: – 4 units English – 4 units Math (Algebra 1 or higher) – 3 units Social Studies – 3 units Science (including 1 lab) – 2 units of same Foreign Language – 1 unit Fine Art

6 NCAA Eligibility – www.ncaaclearinghouse.org www.ncaaclearinghouse.org Students need 16 eligible core classes – Eligible classes Regular-level or Honors English Regular-level or Honors Math Most Science classes, including electives Most Social Studies classes, including electives Foreign Language classes – Ineligible classes Yearbook/Newspaper, Varsity Speech/Debate, Applied English III, Applied Communications Concepts Math classes Any Fine or Practical Art, even it is used as a graduation requirement (ex. 3 rd Agriculture class substituting a Science credit)

7 Graduating “With Honors” Have attended OHS for the last 4 consecutive semesters at time of graduation Not have taken a HS class pass/fail 95%+ attendance Score above the national average on the ACT (currently 21) 3.85 or higher cumulative GPA – Cum Laude – 3.85-3.99 cumulative GPA – Summa Cum Laude – 4.00+ cumulative GPA

8 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Continue taking Honors and Foreign Language classes IB classes begin in 11 th grade

9 New Classes Computer Science & Software Engineering – PLTW – Grades 10-12 – Prerequisite: Computer Concepts or Video Game Programming AND teacher permission CAPS (Career Advanced Professional Studies) – Grades 11-12 – Semester class, double-blocked Online Fitness & Online Career Opportunities II – Grades 11-12 – Prerequisite: must meet on-line course requirements

10 Changes Chemistry prerequisite – Completion of Algebra II or concurrent enrollment – Not Concepts of Algebra II Animal Science (CASE) – Double-blocked, semester Name changes – Basic Speech → Public Speaking – Applied Tech → Materials & Process – Network+ → Intro to Networking – Desktop Publishing  Digital Design & Graphics

11 Other Opportunities for Credit Summer School – June 1 – 26 – Schedule released April 23 Credit Recovery/MO Options/Finley River School – See your counselor COE (grades 11-12) – Receive credits for working at a job (see course description in Course Planner) AOE (grade 12) – Receive credits for Agriculture-based work Child Development II (grades 11-12)

19 Scheduling Roadblocks! NO PPoS w/parent signature Unpaid Fees!! – Check on SIS Computer Unreturned items (library books, textbooks, uniforms, etc.) Etc. Signatures!! Teacher permissions (any class with an ‘S’ next to it) Parent Advisory Teacher

21 Keep in mind… The schedule you create is subject to change. Sometimes things happen that create changes in the master schedule, causing student schedules to be adjusted. YOU have the opportunity to make your schedule. Schedules will only be changed for the reasons listed in the Student Handbook!
