Design Technology Design a Pet House Design and make a home for a pet! To use a range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks (cutting, shaping, joining and finishing) English Read and write stories, information and poetry related to animals. Children to talk about what they are going to write about before starting writing. Write simple sentences that include capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Geography Finding out about animals from hot and cold climates and different habitats such as mountains or underwater. History Children to know when their birthday is. Changes in living memory related to the children’s own lives. To use words such as now, yesterday, a long time ago etc ICT E. Safety Multi media – using art software. Learning word processing skills. Using Digital Media – adding captions and sound. SEAL New Beginnings Getting on and Falling out Anti-Bullying Week Science Looking at Animals. Identifying, grouping and naming a variety of animals and describing their characteristics (movement, body parts) Recognising animals that are fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Looking after Pets RE Different Faiths. They will learn about what being a Christian means. They will learn about what a Muslim believes. They will begin to understand some simple elements of the Jewish faith. They will find out that Hindus believe in 4 gods. PSHE Keeping Safe indoors and outdoors Anti-Bullying Keeping oneself safe Understanding right and wrong Citizenship: Animals and us PE Ball Skil ls Choose and use skills effectively for particular games. Use basic underarm/over arm skills when rolling, hitting, catching, retrieving, throwing and kicking various equipment (balls/beanbags etc) Develop tactical skills when playing against an opponent. Describe what their bodies feel like during activity. Music Through singing a variety of songs about Animals, the children will explore the musical concept of pulse and metre. They will discover the sounds that different percussion instruments make, and will learn how to handle and play them with control. The second half-term will focus on learning the songs for the Christmas Concert, and culminate in two fully staged performances. Maths Counting, writing and ordering numbers to 20 and beyond. Adding 2 single digit numbers together. Recognising and adding coins: 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p. Taking away a one digit number from 10. Learning number bonds to 10. Recognising 2D shapes. Print patterns using food as a stimulus. Use Cezanne and Arcimboldo ‘s work to develop art skills. Design Technology Make products using simple hand tools and equipment. Work safely and hygenically with food. Design and make simple food products. Taste and evaluate familiar foods. English Read texts to develop phonic knowledge and comprehension. Develop punctuation and writing styles of stories, instructions, recounts and poetry. Become more independent spellers. Start to join letters. Geography Identify different shop uses in the local area. Investigate which countries food comes from. Find out about another country that food comes from. History Compare how bread was made in Roman times and how bread is made now. ICT Develop skills in opening, writing and sending emails. Be aware of e-safety issues when using emails. Select and use appropriate painting tools to create and change images on the computer. SEAL Celebrate similarities and differences in their new class. Develop ways to calm down and help others if they are upset or scared and resolve conflict with others. Anti Bullying Keeping oneself safe. Science Health and Growth Find out about different food types and healthy life choices. Consider growth in humans and animals. Changing Materials Investigating changing shapes and state of materials. RE Describe some religious celebrations and how food is part of the celebration. Identify special places, objects and symbols and in places of worship. Visit to St Albans Cathedral. PE Remember, repeat and link gymnastic actions. Move equipment safely. Develop ball playing skills in hockey and football. Recognise and describe what bodies feel like during activity. Music Develop understanding of the dynamics of music – louder, quieter, silence. Use their voices expressively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes. Explore pitch – higher and lower sounds. Maths Read,write and order numbers to 100 and beyond. Count on and back in 1s and 10s. Add and subtract money understanding equivalent values. Double and halve numbers.
