support.ebsco.com Tutorial EBSCO Audiobooks
2
Welcome to EBSCOs Audiobooks tutorial. In this tutorial, we will look at how to search for Audiobooks as well as how to download and transfer them to a portable device.
3
Please note, in order to download Audiobooks, you must have a personal My EBSCOhost folder account. If you do not already have an account, you can create one free of charge by clicking the Sign In link in the top toolbar.
4
The Audiobook Collection screen is accessible by clicking the Audiobooks link in the top toolbar. From the Audiobook Collection screen, you can search Audiobooks by keyword, Browse by Category, View the Latest Added Audiobooks, or View Featured Audiobooks. Click the View All links to view a full result list of Latest Added or Featured Audiobooks.
5
Click the Sample button to hear a preview of the Audiobook, or hover your pointer over an image to read a brief description.
6
For this demonstration, well conduct an Audiobook search on spiderwick. Enter your search terms and click Search.
7
A Result List is displayed. From the Result List, you can hear a sample of an Audiobook by clicking the Sample button. To download the Audiobook, click the Download link. If you are not signed in to your My EBSCOhost folder, you will be prompted to do so.
8
After signing in, the Download This Audiobook box appears. If the Download Manager software is not detected on your computer, you will be prompted to download and install it. The Download Manager software must be installed in order to download Audiobooks. Select your platform (PC or Mac) and follow the prompts to install the software. Instructions for installing the Download Manager software are available from the EBSCO Support Site.
9
Select a Checkout Period from the drop-down menu and click the Checkout & Download button.
10
The Audiobook is added to the Checkouts area of your folder and the Download Manager software is started automatically.
11
When transferring an Audiobook to an Apple device, the Download Manager scans for the device while the file is downloaded. Ensure that your device is connected to your computer. If you have not connected your device, you will be prompted to do so.
12
After the download is complete, it is transferred to the Apple device. Once the transfer is complete, click Close Download Manager to close the window.
13
When transferring an Audiobook to Windows Media Player, the Download Manager displays the progress of your download. Once the download is complete, Windows Media Player opens and you can listen to your Audiobook. If desired, connect a compatible device and transfer the Audiobook to it according to the Windows Media Player instructions.
14
If the Audiobook you have chosen to download is in use by another patron, and if your library offers Hold capability, you have the opportunity to place a hold on the Audiobook, to download it when it becomes available. Enter your e-mail address in the field provided, and click the Place Hold button.
15
When an Audiobook is added to the folder, it appears in the Audiobooks area. Audiobooks checked out to be downloaded appear in the Checkouts area. If you have placed a Hold on an Audiobook to download when it becomes available, it appears in the Holds area.
