1930s to 1940s Sir Forrest Mars, the founder of Mars Company, had a great idea. In the 1930’s during the Spanish civil war he saw the soldiers eating chocolate pallets with hard shell tempered chocolate even in the inside. They did that so the chocolate wont melt in their pockets. Mars company started producing this in a factory located at 285 Badger Avenue in Clinton Hill, Newark, New Jersey( First Factory). When operations were started, the hard- coated chocolates were made in five colors: red, yellow, brown, green, and violet. They were served in a cardboard tube.

Role of technology in the brands expansion.
The M&M Company uses technology to advertise their products on TV so more people can buy M&M’s. They also have a website listing all of their products and history about the company. Technology is also used for the machinery in factories. The letter M is printed on each piece of candy by machines, each machine stamps around 2.6 million M&M’s per hour. So about 100 million M&M’s can be stamped per day.

Why is this global brand successful?
This Brand is successful because the idea that came to Sir Forrest Mars was a genius idea he made chocolate pallets for the soldiers in the Spanish civil war so he became really famous for that. Then the product became really popular that he made them in Christmas and Easter I would assume he wasn’t making a lot of profit from this so he kept this going for couple of years until he got the money to make open internationally with good locations like Las Vegas, New York etc on main streets so everyone spots them and this is how the company is alive today.
