ACT II Chapter 20 l Verses 1-6 speak of a period of a thousand years. Two major events happen for this thousand year period. l First appears an angel.

ACT II Chapter 20 l The angel has l A chain l A key to the abyss l He binds the dragon, puts him in the pit and locks it shut for a thousand years.

l The dragon—Satan—is bound for a thousand years. l He has always been bound or limited by God. l Job, Matt. 12:44, Col. 2:15.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l So now Satan is to be bound or limited again. l He cannot again deceive the nations into becoming his agent to destroy the church by persecution.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l Souls reign with Christ for a thousand years. l Who are these souls? Did not worship the beast Did not receive His mark Gave their lives for their testimony.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l Note these verses when these souls have been seen before: 6:9; 7:13-14; 14:1-4; 15:2-3; 19:2, 14. l Who reigns with Christ? l The martyrs of the Roman persecution.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l These are in the status of “souls.” Thus they are between death and resurrection.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l Why do they reign? Their bravery has helped the church to survive. l Their enemy has just gone down to defeat. l So they are celebrating their victory.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l Where do they reign? l Martyrs have been in heaven since 6:9 l Christ has been in heaven since chapter 5 l All thrones are in heaven except throne of beast

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l “Souls” are in heaven for they have no human body l So the souls reign with Christ in heaven

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l When do they reign? l Chapter 19 ends with the fall of Rome so that is where Chapter 20 and the thousand years begins.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l Chapter 20 ends with the final judgment. l Only the “short time” separates the end of the thousand years from the end of time.

Revelation 20 The Thousand Years l So the thousand years spans the period from the fall of Rome to shortly before the end of the world.

Revelation 20 The Short Time l Satan is released from the pit. l Satan seeks to harm the church again—he has not changed. l God intervenes before Satan appears to harm the church

Revelation 20 The Short Time l Satan is sent into the Lake of fire l Where he will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Revelation 20 The Final Judgment l John sees God on a great white throne. l All the dead—great and small—appear before Him l The dead are judged from the record of their deeds

l Those written in the Book of Life, however, are acquitted. l Ex. 32:33; Psalm 69:28; Luke 10:20; Phil. 4:3 and Rev. 3:5 tell who is in the Book of Life. l God’s people, the saved, the church.

Revelation 20 The Final Judgment l So what conclusions would you draw from this look at the final judgment? l Are you ready?
