1 MIDDLE SCHOOL Being Engineers The greatest inventors of the past were creative, intelligent thinkers who imagined solutions. Engineers are modern-day inventors. Science-Being Engineers

2 MIDDLE SCHOOLScience-Being Engineers 5 th and 6th grade students have been learning how to combine their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to solve problems and design solutions. Sixth grade students studied coastal erosion and developed models of different ways to prevent it. They learned how many communities around the world are affected by coastal erosion and they saw first hand through their models that it is extremely complicated to reverse this process.

6 MIDDLE SCHOOLScience-Being Engineers 5 th graders also used STEM practices to create a prototype of a boat using simple materials like aluminum foil, popsicle sticks, and straws. The goal was for the boat to float and hold as much weight as possible. The strongest boats were able to withstand the weight of over 200 small rocks! Our students are well on their way to becoming engineers!
