Effective PM Framework A Look Ahead at The New Project Team Structure Like all well planned presentations we are going to tell you what we are going to tell you, tell you and then tell you what we told you. So let’s spend some time telling you what we are going to tell you. Some basic logistics first: This course is interactive. Ask questions Challenge what you hear Engage the instructor in applications at your company What works? What doesn’t work? Spend a few minutes on each topic to give them a sense of what the course is about. J. Ross Publishing WAV™ material

Effective PM Framework A Look Ahead at ACPF Requirements An ACPF Requirement is a desired business end-state whose successful integration into the solution meets one or more client needs and delivers to the organization: Specific Measurable Business value We’ll do an exercise later! The set of requirements forms a necessary and sufficient set for achieving expected business value. J. Ross Publishing WAV™ material

Effective PM Framework
Upfront Elicitation of Complete Requirements is Rare The internal and external environments are dynamic: Solutions are not clearly defined up front Market conditions change without notice Unpredictable actions of competitors Technological advances Client learning and discovery Changing strategies and priorities You can never know for sure that requirements are complete. When in doubt err on the side that they are not complete. J. Ross Publishing WAV™ material

Effective PM Framework Upfront Elicitation of Complete Requirements is Rare ACPF Requirement definition evolves as part of project execution. The definition takes the form of a hierarchical structure know as the Requirements Breakdown Structure (RBS). The hierarchy includes any or all of the following: Functions and sub-functions Processes and Activities Features The specific evolution occurs as the product of iterative learning and discovery. J. Effective PM Framework Definition of a Project Management Life Cycle A PMLC is a sequence of processes that answer the six questions and include these phases: Scoping Planning Launching Monitoring & Controlling Closing NOTE: Every valid project management life cycle must include each of these processes one or more times. Business Challenges Objectives, Strategies and Tactics (OST) Model The OST Model is the key component of the ACPF. The OST model is the enabling structure for the strategic plan. Projects, programs and portfolios are rooted in the plan with business value as the success criteria. J. Ross Publishing WAV™ material

The Adaptive Complex Project Framework Three Phases of ACPF IDEATION: What are we going to do? STEP 1: Develop Business Case STEP 2: Elicit Requirements STEP 3: Write Project Overview Statement SET-UP: How are we going to do it? STEP 4: Classify Project STEP 5: Choose Best Fit PMLC Model Template STEP 6: Assess Project Characteristics STEP 7: Modify PMLC Model Template EXECUTION: Let’s do it! STEP 8: Define Version Scope STEP 9: Plan Next Cycle STEP 10: Build the Next Cycle Deliverables STEP 11: Conduct Client Checkpoint STEP 12: Close the Version J. Ross Publishing WAV™ material

ACPF Ideation Phase STEP 1: Common Practices & Shortcomings Every business unit has to have a project Political power and leverage are often the tools used to get projects approved and continued The business market is too complex and uncertain to ignore valid input and evaluation of ideas ACPF offers a process for the honest evaluation of ideas and the eventual approval of projects with expected business value! Implementing ACPF What is an ACPF Implementation? At the highest level an ACPF Implementation includes the following components: Current state of project management processes and practices Desired end state for project management processes and practices Transition plan from the current state to the desired end state J.
