5 Exit year studies at Aalto  Courses completed according to the curriculum/learning agreement  all courses finished by end of the year  Courses from outside the curriculum (without professor’s approval) and elective courses on top of the credit requirement are not included in the degree  Autumn: hunting for internship & thesis topic (+supervisor)  found at latest in December  Internship & thesis writing starts in January  Official confirmation of topic by March  Master’s thesis (+ I&E thesis) finished by end of June  Maturity test & thesis presentation in May/June  Thesis & evaluation approved in end of August  Graduation in end of August EIT ICT Labs General Overview | Page 5

7 Keys to success in EIT ICT Labs Master School  Arrive on time in the beginning of the semester.  Prepare to study full-time.  Follow the curriculum.  Abide by the universities’ regulations and statutes.  Be proactive and independent in search for information – there are always people here to help you, but encouraging students to be independent and take responsibility is part of the core ideology of Finnish universities.  Be an active respondent to any feedback surveys sent to you and participate in the development of the programme. 8  Should any problems occur…  Notify your study coordinator immediately of any changes in circumstances which may affect your ability to follow the programme (i.e. you get sick and miss an exam and have to retake it, or you must suddenly leave home for personal reasons etc.)  And if necessary, see a doctor immediately! Not only for your own health and wellbeing, but also because notifications in retrospective (“I was so sick last semester that I couldn’t attend the courses”) don’t help. 9  Enrollment at Aalto  By Finnish law, all university students must be members of the Student Union, i.e. enrollment requires payment of AYY fee  You must be enrolled as attending at Aalto always when you pursue studies to be registered, i.e.:  Exit year students: the whole exit year + the next autumn semester (possibility for reimbursement) EIT ICT Labs General Overview | Page 9

10 Health care and insurance  FSHS student health care = first option always  By paying the fee students are entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS)  http://www.yths.fi/en.http://www.yths.fi/en  Basic medical care, gynecologist, mental health care, physiotherapists, and oral health care.  Available during office hours only  No hospital or emergency services  Public health care by using European Social Security Card  Tapiola health station is the closest  Only for emergency treatments EIT ICT Labs General Overview | Page 10
