3 Reasons for War Political Corruption Congo government receives bribes from corrupt foreign companies. Foreign companies supplied weapons in exchange for oil. 2003 peace agreement failed because the people who signed it were corrupt. Exploitation of Natural Resources Copper, gold, diamond coltan, oil Coltan is used to make cell phones, computers and video games. 2008: Oil exports were over $7 billion but the country is very poor.

5 Death after 2003 3.8 million people have died -half of them children. More than 1,000 people die each day. 5.4 million people have died from preventable diseases such as malaria and malnutrition. 1.5 million people are homeless refugees.

7 Conclusions No simple solutions. War still continues today and just as many people are dying. February 24, 2013: 11 countries signed a United Nations Peace agreement. The entire world must get involved to finally end this horrific civil conflict.
