The First Boer War Vs. The Revolutionary War

Meet The Tyrant The Boer War The British empire was in power in many of the Southern states in Africa, including the Transvaal Republic (modern day South Africa). The Revolutionary War The British Empire (King George was the King of Britain at that time). He was a dictator and a tyrant! He had control over all the American colonies at that time.

The Causes of Revolt The Boer War The British annexation over S.A. The Boers opposed the British rule over their land. They wanted their freedom again. The Revolutionary War The British were imposing high taxes on the Colonies. They made the Tea act, the stamp act and many more laws.

What Did The People Do About It? The Boer War --- The Boers revolt --- They formally declare independence from the British. This leads to the war on 16 th December 1800 The Revolutionary War --- Colonists believe that the king is a tryrant --- People revolt and boycott --- They say “No taxation without representation”

So The Tyrant Decides To… The Boer War The British thought that the Boers were no match for them They lost many battles and they needed a lot of reinforcement. The Revolutionary War The British sent more troops and reinforcement. They made more laws/taxes. They formally declared war.

How Did They Attain Freedom? The Boer War The Boers formed militia. They were skilled hunters and marksmen which gave them an advantage. They also had the advantage of knowing the terrain. The Revolutionary War The colonists sent delegates to the 1 st and 2 nd continental congress. They formed militia They made the continental army Teamed up with the French.

Who Helped Out? The Boer War The former president T. F. Burgers and other people were against British rule and wanted their Independence back. Paul Kruger and E. J. P. Jorissen went to London in 1877 to try to make reason. The Revolutionary War The sons of liberty protested. George Washington lead the continental army. Thomas Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence.

What Happened In The End? The Boer War The war ended in March 1881 South Africa (Transvaal) got its independence back. The Pretoria Convention (1881) and the London Convention (1884) stated the terms of peace between these two nations The Revolutionary War The war ended in 1783 with the United States of America victorious over Britain. There was the treaty of Paris laying down terms of peace between the two nations. They were now an independent country.

How Are Those Countries Today? The Boer War The South African Republic is one of Africa’s Strongest Nations. It has a strong, Independent government. It hosted the world cup in 2010 :D The Revolutionary War The United States of America are now one of the worlds strongest nations. They celebrate their independence every year on July 4 th.
