2
Potential Energy The energy an object has because of its composition or position.
3
Kinetic Energy Energy an object has because of its mass and velocity. Objects that don't move have no kinetic energy.
4
Joule The si unit of energy
5
Wattage An amount of power, especially electric power, expressed in watts or kilowatts An amount of power, especially electric power, expressed in watts or kilowatts The electric power required by an appliance or device The electric power required by an appliance or device A measure of electric power based on the amount of amps and volts
6
Renewable Energy Energy that come from natural resources such as the sun with solar power or water with hydropower
7
Non-Renewable Energy Energy that is not renewable such as fossil fuels and some gases.
8
Weather-Stripping Strips of foam insulation or another depending on the brand to keep temperatures regulated in homes
9
Insulation Fibers, foam, and/or paper that is used to fill cracks and gaps in homes so air will not get through and raise energy cost’s
10
R-Value The thermal energy resistance a specific type of insulation has that is used in the building and construction industry.
11
Greenhouse Emissions Gases that are released due to the effects of the greenhouse effect
12
Thermostat A device that controls the system functions of a heating or cooling unit
13
Ambient Temperature The temperature in a room, or the temperature which surrounds an object under discussion
14
Efficiency To use less energy to provide the same level of energy service
15
Carbon Footprint A carbon footprint is the measure of the amount of greenhouse gases, measured in units of carbon dioxide, produced by human activities
