2 Indiana Graduation Requirements
The Indiana State Board of Education adopted new graduation requirements in the spring of 2005 which begin with 9th grade students who begin high school next year (in the Fall of 2006).

3 Three diploma tracts from which to choose:
Core 40 Core 40 with Academic Honors Core 40 with Technical Honors General Diploma

5 Core 40 Diploma English Math Science Credits Years Courses 8 credits
English 11 or Honors English 12 or Honors Math 6 credits (in grades 9-12) 3 years Algebra I Geometry Algebra II **Students must take a math course or Quantitative Reasoning (QR) course each year in high school. See the full list of QR courses at: Science 6 credits Biology I Integrated Chemistry/ Physics Chemistry or Anatomy & Phys. To receive a Core 40 diploma, students must complete 4 years of English (containing a mixture of composition, literature and speech components). Required math credits include a year of Algebra I, a year of Geometry and a year of Algebra II. 6 Math credits must be earned in grades 9-12 and students must take a Math or QR course each year in high school. Core 40 science requirements begin with a year of Biology I, plus one more year of another Core 40 Science, and at least one year of either Chemistry, Physics or Integrated Chemistry-Physics.

World History US History US Government/Economics PE 2 credits 1 year Health & Careers 1 credit 1 sem. Health and Wellness Preparing for College & Careers Three years of social studies courses are also required including a year of either World History & Civilization or a year of Geography and History of the World. In addition, students are required to take a year of US History, 1 semester of US Government and 1 semester of Economics. All diploma options include two semesters of Physical Education and 1 semester of Health and Wellness.

Credits Courses Directed Electives 5 credits World Languages Fine Arts Career-Technical Education General Electives 6 credits College & Career Pathway courses recommended. TOTAL Minimum of 40 credits All required courses will be assigned a letter grade and factored into the overall GPA. Elective credits can be chosen by the student but at least five of the electives should be in either World Languages, Fine Arts, or in the Career-Technical area. College & Career Pathway courses are recommended for general electives. *Add any local requirements here.

Complete one of the following: A. 4 credits in AP courses and take corresponding AP exams, B. 6 college credits in dual credit courses from priority course list, C. Earn two of the following: 1. 3 college credits from priority course list, 2. 2 credits in AP courses and take corresponding AP exams, 3. 2 credits in IB courses and take IB exams. D. Earn a 1750 or higher on the SAT critical reading, math, and writing sections and a minimum of 530 on each section E. Earn an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and complete written section F. Earn 4 credits in IB courses and take corresponding exams

Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential, or 2. Pathway dual credits resulting in 6 transcripted college credits AND...

15 Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma
Complete ONE of the following: A. Any one of the options (A-F) of the Academic Honors Diploma. B. Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys: Reading for Information – Level 6, Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and Locating Information – Level 5. C. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75. D. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass: Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80.

Algebra I End-of-course Assessment (ECA) English 10 End-of-course Assessment (ECA) All Indiana students are required to pass the Algebra I and English 10 ECAs in order to graduate. Students will have multiple opportunities to take the assessments. Waiver options are available.

Indiana University Excellence Scholarship Award: $9,000 per year School: Indiana University Major: Any Criteria: Students with SAT score of 1350 (CR & MATH) or above or ACT composite of 31 or above and a minimum GPA of 3.8, will receive an IU Excellence Scholarship at the time of admission. Deadline: Must have complete application file to IU by November 1st. Indiana University Prestige Scholarships Award: $3,000 per year Criteria: Students with SAT score of 1250 (CR & MATH) or above or ACT composite of 28 or above and a minimum GPA of 3.7 will receive an IU Prestige Scholarship at the time of admission. *This info is outdated, but it gives an example of college scholarship selection criteria.

IUPUI Chancellor’s Scholarship Award: $8,000 per year for four years School: IUPUI Major: Any Criteria: Students who have applied for admission by Dec. 1st who have a GPA and a minimum 1250 SAT or 28 ACT may be eligible for this scholarship. *Not available for spring entry students. Deadline: Must have complete application file to IUPUI by December 1st. IUPUI Dean of the Faculties Scholarship Award: $4,000 per year for four years Criteria: Students who have applied for admission by Dec. 1st who have a 3.5 GPA and a minimum 1200 or higher on the SAT or 26 on the ACT may be eligible for this scholarship.

45 Points to Ponder…. Admission Decision is made based upon freshman, sophomore, and junior years of high school. Honors courses=Stronger Test Scores Often times, test score is what gets you considered for scholarships

47 21st Century Scholars If you are a 21st Century Scholar, some private schools will cover remaining tuition not covered by award. IU & Purdue provide financial assistance for housing, if you are a 21st Century Scholar & meet eligibility requirements.
