6 A ‘secular’ University? think again… University Cathedral Carol Service Has an official ‘University Prayer’ Cathedral Service for 50 th Anniversary Chapel on campus 3 Sunday congregations...and 3 full-time Chaplains Anglican, Catholic, Pentecostal

7 The Diocese of Canterbury In fact, the character of a community reflects the people in it! 25% of students are from continental Europe and Overseas (5000+) At any given time approx 600 students are active across 9 Christian groups/congregations on campus Over 50% of student population ‘self identify’ as Christian, even if they don’t currently attend church Significant Muslim population (with a mosque at edge of campus)..and many staff are well-known faces in churches in Canterbury area.

8 The Diocese of Canterbury Christianity and the University Experience (results for Kent University published 2013) Confident and effective Chaplaincy with good publicity and support from the University; Unique emphasis on campus- based Sunday worship with the right range of denominations; Vitality springing from the diversity of Christian groups and styles; and amazing cultural and international mix.

9 The Diocese of Canterbury Getting the Groups Together International, Intercultural, Interfaith…  ‘Campus Christian Council’ (a meeting of Christian groups);  Support and publicity for initiatives such as Discover Islam Week, and Jewish Awareness Week;  Joint society events, including coach trips;  Carol Service (biggest University event annually)
