2. Introduction  The Oncology E-Learning Network (www.oncology.utorontoeit.com) is a project that originated from the Department of Medicine Educational IT Summer Student Program. The main objective of that program is to combine the faculty content experts and the medical/undergraduate/graduate students at University of Toronto who have technical know- how to develop the next-generation medical educational software.

3. Background and Rationale  Rationale:  To complement the traditional educational program for postgraduate medical trainees in medical oncology  To develop an extensive website that will provide one-step access to comprehensive information on medical oncology that students can use for learning support

4. Project Methodology  The student work primarily consisted of designing and constructing the website using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.  The Faculty member provided the necessary content for on-line tutorials and practice cases.

5. Main Findings/Deliverables  The first set of on-line tutorials has been completed.  A presentation about the Department of Medicine Educational IT Summer Student Program will be made at the annual Slice of Life conference with a short section on the oncology project.

6. Implications for Open Source/Open Access  The on-line information will be made freely available for download and printing under a Creative Commons license. Ideally, this will allow free use of the material by postgraduate medical trainees at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, as well as by other medical schools around the world.

7. What communities are affected?  This website is designed to enrich the understanding of postgraduate medical trainees in medical oncology.

8. How I benefited from SEP  This project has gotten me very interested in exploring the role of the internet as a delivery medium for educational materials.  In the future, I hope to study how the internet can be used to improve the health care system.

9. Conclusions and Next Steps  The next steps for this project will involve the development of additional on-line tutorials and practice cases.  The website will be introduced to postgraduate medical trainees at St. Michael's Hospital.
