1 Empacts Project Intro to Ed./Regina Ryel Spring 2008 Alisa Craig, Jenny Miroballi, and Sarah Rustin

2  Good nutrition is a necessity for maintaining healthy minds and bodies. Elementary school students need to learn the importance of healthy choices when it comes to the foods they consume. If educated now, it will ensure for a healthier and more productive adulthood. Our group developed a useful tool along with a hands on lesson that focuses on nutrition. We also distributed healthy snacks for 75 elementary students during the Benchmark exams on April 16 th.

3  We broadened each elementary student’s knowledge about nutrition while providing a fun and proficient learning experience through an interactive Food Pyramid poster.  We assisted the classroom teacher by providing an instructional power point about nutrition, and we provided snacks for benchmark testing.  We improved and developed needed soft skills, and we strived to become a well rounded professional.

4  This EMPACTS project serves the community by giving nutritious snacks and educational tools to a local elementary school.

5  Examine beliefs and opinions about teaching and learning.  Extend understanding as self as a learner and future teacher.  Integrate knowledge of self and students to the context of the school.  Broaden the understanding of the role of schools.  Review practical issues related to the teaching proffession.

8  Talk to all teachers we will be providing service for before spring break.  Raise funds or materials for project by April 1 st.  Meet with teammates weekly until project is finished.  Prepare visual by April 12 th.  Prepare and organize lesson plan by April 7 th.  Present project to 3 rd graders on May 2 nd.
