Nevada Department of Public Safety 9/12/2015DEM Function Presentation2 Mission Statement The mission of the Division of Emergency Management is to coordinate the efforts of the state and its political subdivisions together in partnership with private and volunteer organizations and tribal nations in reducing the impact of disasters. This is accomplished by developing, planning, implementing, and maintaining programs for prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. The mission of Homeland Security is to collaborate, advise, assist, and engage with various federal, state, local, and tribal entities, private sector, non-governmental partners, and the general public to prevent, detect, and deter terrorism activity in order to minimize the impact on lives, property, and the economy. Nevada Department of Public Safety 9/12/2015DEM Function Presentation19 Tribal Governments Although Tribal Governments may elect to coordinate directly with the Federal Government, a State Governor must request a Presidential Declaration on behalf of a Tribe under the Stafford Act. For Pre/Post-Mitigation Grants funding, and for Individual/Public Assistance Grants, Tribes may elect to go directly to the Federal Government for assistance, or to the county/state if there are agreements in place.
