Welcome to Moscow the capital of the Russian Federation. More than 11 million people of different nationalities live and work here. Moscow is the biggest and the most important city of our country, the seat of the Russian government.

Old Moscow The capital has got a long and interesting history.

The city was founded by Yuri Dolgoruky and was first mentioned in 1147.

At that time it was a small settlement on the bank of the Moskva river.

By the 15 th century Moscow had grown into a wealthy city.

The city developed very quickly and in the 16 th century it became the capital of the state Muscovy. But some time later St Petersburg became the imperial city ( 1712 - 1918).

In 1918 Moscow became a Russian capital again. It’s been a political and administrative centre of the country since then.

There are over 160 higher educational institutions, 150 colleges and 1727 schools. M. V. Lomonosov State University is the oldest and the most famous one. Today Moscow is also an educational centre of the Russian Federation.

We can get to Moscow by train, by plane, by ship, by car or by taxi. Moscow is a world known transport centre.

Moscow has got 5 airports: Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo-1, Sheremetyevo-2, Domodedovo, Bykovo.

T he capital is famous for its railway stations: Kazansky, Leningradsky, Belorussky, Kievsky, Rizhsky, Yaroslavsky, Kursky, Paveletsky, Savyolovsky.

Moscow underground is the most beautiful in the world. The underground has got 12 lines and 196 stations.

We can travel around Moscow by bus, by trolleybus, by tram or by taxi. 3 / 4 of them work every day.

The traffic is very heavy. Public transport and private cars ruin the environment of the city.There are a lot of traffic jams in the streets.

There are a lot of plants, factories and firms producing different products. We all enjoy Moscow sweets and chocolate. Moscow is an industrial city.

The factory «Glory» began working in 1924. Its watches and clocks are still in use. Gold of the factory “Agat“ is known not only in Moscow but also abroad. A lot of dairy products are produced at Wimm-Bill-Done.

The Kuskovo Estate is located in Perovsky district. It used to be the summer residence of the Sheremetyevs.Magnificent constructions such as the Palace, Grotto, the Hermitage, the Great stone Conservatory, the Old Church, Italian and Dutch Houses have survived until nowadays. Moscow is a cultural centre famous for its art galleries, cinemas, museums and beautiful estates.

Inside the estate There are a lot of beautiful halls inside the estate. They are decorated with pictures, vases and sculptures.

Arbat Arbat is one of the oldest streets in Moscow. It is also one of the symbols of old Moscow.

St. Basil's Cathedral was built to honor the victory over Mongol Tatars in 1555. Inside the cathedral there are a lot of things from the Middle Ages. St. Basil's Cathedral

Moscow is the city of theatres. The Bolshoi and the Mali Theatres are the oldest ones. You can also visit The Satire Theatre, The Theatre of the Russian Army and a lot of other theatres and concert halls.
