2010 DME: Well Man Clinics

SAQs 2b)William Walker claims that: “In any event, more women now smoke than men in every age group.” He is exaggerating as Source C2(b) shows that more men smoke in three of the 6 age groups, for example, 25-34 years age group male smokers are 35% to female smokers 28%. 3)The evidence supports William Walker to some extent when he says: “Surveys show most men wanted Well Man Clinics open in the evenings and a majority were unhappy with the information they received.” Source C3(b) shows William to be correct as most men (77%) would have liked to see Well Man Clinics open in the evening. Source C3(a) shows that he is incorrect as most men (85%) were happy with the information they received from Well Man Clinics.

A C1a BK Title: Well Man Clinics Role and Remit: I am a health policy adviser asked to prepare a report for the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing in which I am making a recommendation regarding the future of Well Man Clinics. Recommendation: I am recommending that Well Man Clinics are introduced to every part of Scotland. Arguments for proposal: 1.Men’s life expectancy is lower than that of women. Numerous reports prove that the health of men in this country is worse than the health of women. Men have higher death rates from cancer at 350 in comparison to 300 for women. In Scotland 64% of men are obese in comparison to only 57% of women. And 3 more arguments like this. Information for this section comes from the front page of Paper 2 Must use : Argument Quote from text source Information from a statistical source Background knowledge

B C1b C2a BK Arguments against proposal and rebuttal: 1.My opponents would say that increasing the number of Well Man Clinics is not the way to deal with inequality in health between men and women. Clinics will be used, in the main, by health-conscious, middle class professionals who already lead healthy lifestyles. It will not solve problems for Glasgow which has a male life expectancy of 69.9. But they are wrong because men are exceeding the recommended alcohol intake by nearly 20% more than women, well man clinics would help with this. Statistics show men are less likely than women to attend the doctor, well man clinics may change this. You should have max 3 at least 2 paragraphs here. Opponents argument Evidence from the other text source you have not used yet Evidence from a statistical source that they would refer to They are wrong because (and provide your argument) Evidence from statistical source showing you are correct Background knowledge showing you are correct

Conclusion: Men’s life expectancy is lower than that of women. You should have 4 bullet points here Here you simply bullet point your arguments from each point in the first section.
