To lead people, walk beside them…As for the best leaders, the people do not notice their existence. The next best, the people honor and praise. The next, the people fear; and the next, the people hate, When the best leaders work is done the people say, We did it ourselves! Lao-Tsu Reflecting on this past semester, I came to the realization on what kind of a leader I am. However, I consider myself a unique leader, but if I had to categories myself, I probably fit The Servant Leadership Model. I’m not one to instantly standup and say Follow me, I know the way. I’m much more subtle. By understanding that my top strengths, I realized how much of and Empathetic person I am and how I apply it to being a leader. I like to be the ice breaker in group. Whether is just starting a normal conversation or telling a joke, I am the one who fixes the tension with groups to which I then facilitate the group from there.

SECTION 1 SELF LEADERSHIP Student will describe personal leadership style and/or personality style including strengths and weaknesses and examples of application (Sources = Leadership style inventories, the L.P.I., StrengthsQuest, Type Focus (MBTI), LAMP, and other career inventories, etc.) How Loyal of a person I am to my friends/Gallop Strengths My top strength is Empathy. As stated many times in class, this strength is very similar to the Yin and the Yang. On one side, by having this strength I'm able to analyze social situations and approach them in a appropriate manner. However, it is very easy to be sucked into situation that you don't want to be involved in which can leave you feeling very uncomfortable. Due to the fact that I'm a loyal person, I always put my friends before myself. This has helped me form very strong bonds, yet I usually find myself sitting in my room at 1:00 at night realizing that I have three papers to do and saying to myself, " Why didn't I do these again?"

SECTION 2 Self Leadership Student will demonstrate the ability to manage emotions Performing in my first concert while my brother was hospitalized My freshman year of high school, my brother was hospitalized because he experimented with cutting himself. We were both going to perform together, but once this tragedy happened, I was devastated. I then came to the realization that I was going to play in his honor. Over the course of a week span, I was able to get a my band mates, who were all two years older then me to play to their full potential.

SECTION 3 Leadership Theory and Models Student will show knowledge of the “Social Change Model of Leadership Development” by Astin et al HDF 190/Group Activity The Social Change model of Leadership is a very interesting diagram on how everything is connected when it comes to Social Change. It starts with an individual who must be committed on his goal and understand how is morals are going to play apart. Tie that into a group and then into society, Social Change can be accomplished through. But an important aspect is also the 7 Cs which tie into these three groupings. This was learned when we did an activity where by using the 7 Cs, my FLITE class and I had to bridge the gaps of “Toxic Peanut Butter” to make to all three groups to truly understand this concept.

SECTION 4 Inclusive Leadership / Diversity and its application to leadership Student will demonstrate knowledge of leadership that is used in crisis Roman Dictators In a time of Crisis, like a rebellion or a time of war, the Roman Republic would enlist a Dictator. The purpose of the Dictator was for someone to approach the situation with an unbiased opinion. This method worked up until Julius Caesar was made a dictator then he took over, making the Roman Empire.

SECTION 5 (Interpersonal and Organizational Concepts and Skills ) Student will describe personal examples related to being a peer leader and being led by peers Being a Captain in Volleyball/being led by a different Captain When I freshman in High School, one of my close friends told me in the Spring that I was playing Volleyball, and I could not say no. Little did I know that he was the Captain of the team. For two years I would listen to his advice on my serving, hitting and passing, which in the end helped me become a better player. However, those two seasons we would win a combined five games. My friend could give constructive advice, but wasn’t that good of a Captain. My senior year when I was Captain, I sought to change this loosing streak. I focused more on team building, then the advice would follow suit. My team that season would go to the Semi Finals of the State Tournament. Two different leaders, two different styles, two different outcomes.
