Hualapai Elementary School Programs 2015-2016 Programs Offered are dependent upon funding. RTI- Response to Interventions Daily Math Skill (DMS) Students in grades 1-5 participate in the Daily Math Skills program provided by the classroom teacher. The goal of DMS is to provide grade level accuracy and fluency skills in math. A three -minute practice followed by a two-minute test is provided each day until the class median has reached mastery of the skill. The class then moves on to the next skill. Targeted Tutoring Tutoring for students that scored in the bottom 25% on the AzMerit is offered for selected students. Reading and Math standards in grades 3, 4, and 5 are targeted for instruction. Arizona and common core standards that have been taught and assessed, but not mastered in the regular classroom will be retaught in small group tutoring. For more information please contact jpresnal@kusd.orgjpresnal@kusd.org Tutoring Small group re-teaching will be offered starting in January and ending the beginning of April. Students in grades 3,4, and 5 that have not mastered their grade level standards in reading and math will receive small group instruction during school for targeted standards. Contact jpresnal@kusd.org for more information@kusd.org Reteach and Enrich Reteach and Enrich is based on mastery of district formative assessments. Students that have not mastered the district formative assessments for reading or math are re-taught concepts to mastery. Students that mastered the district formative assessments are provided enrichment opportunities for the same concepts. This structure is provided in grades 4 and 5 for math, and in grade 3 for reading. Planning for the reteach and enrich is a weekly collaboration of grade level teachers using district formative assessments to determine student needs. Groups are determined based on student needs of either reteach or enrichment. Students that continue to need support after a week of reteach may be placed in after-school tutoring. Response to Intervention is a tiered structure for reading designed to provide interventions to all learners based on their instructional needs. Students in grades K-2 participate in the RTI structure for reading. Tier 1 includes classroom instruction for all students that is based on the College and Career Standards. A scientifically-based researched curriculum is utilized to meet the needs of most of the students using flexible grouping, ongoing assessment and targeting specific skills. Tier 2 includes the 15-20 percent of students that need small group instruction for a repeat of Tier 1 instruction or targeted remediation for specific skills. Grade level teachers collaborate to provide services for Tier 2 students using small groups either within or outside of the classroom. Tier 3 includes a small percentage of students who have received Tier 2 instruction and continue having difficulty with mastering necessary skills. Targeted instruction is designed using diagnostic assessments such as the (DIBELS), and small group instruction is provided with support from Title 1 assistants. Questions about the RTI structure at Hualapai should be directed to ssimmons@kusd.orgssimmons@kusd.org Accelerated Classes Accelerated classes are offered in grades 2-5. Students that have demonstrated high achievement in their core subjects of reading and math along with teacher recommendations are selected to be placed in these classes. Instruction in these classes is faster paced with project based inquiries that often dig deep into grade level concepts.
