Instructions for using this template. Remember this is Jeopardy, so where I have written “Answer” this is the prompt the students will see, and where I have “Question” should be the student’s response. To enter your questions and answers, click once on the text on the slide, then highlight and just type over what’s there to replace it. If you hit Delete or Backspace, it sometimes makes the text box disappear. When clicking on the slide to move to the next appropriate slide, be sure you see the hand, not the arrow. (If you put your cursor over a text box, it will be an arrow and WILL NOT take you to the right location.)

To Do Today Review scientific notation Review what’s on test Jeopardy!

On Test Scenario (like spongebob) Vocab – hypothesis, law, theory, observation, independent variable, dependent variable, constant variable, experimental group, control group, placebo, placebo effect Create an experiment Graphs – which is best for which, where dependent & independent variables, interpret graph Scientific notation

Choose a category. You will be given the answer. You must give the correct question. Click to begin.

Scientific Notation, Law, & theory Let’s Experiment! Graphs 10 Point 20 Points 30 Points 40 Points 50 Points 10 Point 20 Points 30 Points 40 Points 50 Points 30 Points 40 Points 50 Points Parts of Experiment Scientific Method

Step 1 of the Scientific Method is? And must be in the form of a ?

What is Determine the Problem and in the form of a question?

The 5 ways to make observatons.

What are seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling?

It’s an educated guess

What is a hypothesis?

On a graph, this variable is on the y axis (vertical).

What is the dependent variable?

State the 6 steps in order.

What is,,,,?

This is an explanation as to how or why something occurs and it’s supported by many experiments.

What is a scientific theory?

Generalizations about how natural world behaves They simply state that something happens…they don’t say why or how!

What is a Scientific Law?

5 x 10 2

What is 500?

- 5.25 x 10 9

What is - 5,250,000,000?

2.350 x 10 -3

0.002350

This is the part of the experiment that the scientist changes; the one thing the exp. group gets that the control group does not.

What is the independent variable?

This is name of the variable that we measure.

What is dependent variable?

These are variables that must be kept the same for the experiment to be valid (fair).

What are constant variables?

The name of the two groups in an experiment and there purposes

What is exp. group (gets experiment on) and control group (comparison)?

This is the name of the fake substance taken in place of the independent variable.

What is placebo?

In an experiment to test to see if OJ improves test scores, what is the independent variable?

What is the OJ?

In an experiment to test to see if OJ improves test scores, what is the dependent variable?

What is the test scores?

In an experiment to test to see if OJ improves test scores, what are three constant variables?

What is same amount of sleep, study time, same food?

In an experiment to test to see if OJ improves test scores, what is the experimental group, what is the control group?

What is experimental group, gets the OJ, the control group does not?

In an experiment to test to see if protein improves the bench press, what are the independent and dependent variables?

What the I.V. is protein, and the D.V. is the bench press?

In an experiment to test to see if protein improves the bench press, which variable would be graphed on the x axis?

What is amount of protein?

Type of graph used to show trends (two things changing together)

What is a line graph?

The type of graph that breaks a whole in to parts and uses percents.

What is the pie graph?

Type of graph used to compare information that has been counted.

What is the bar graph?

Interpret this graph.

Light travels better in clear conditions. The further from the vehicle, the less light.

Make your wager

Design an experiment to test to see if a new medicine relieves heartburn.

Answers to be determined by Mr. Murray!
