3 Why do most people never reach their goals? The reason most people never reach their goals is because they don’t define them or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them. -Denis Watley

4 Does this mean I can’t change my mind? Of course not! The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that people born between 1957 and 1964 held an average of 11 jobs from ages 18 to 44. On average, men held 11.4 jobs and women held 10.7 jobs.Bureau of Labor Statistics 25% percent held 15 jobs or more, while 12% held four jobs or less.

5 Why is it important to have a Career Plan? So that you will take the most helpful courses in high school.  Example: If you think you might want to become a business professional, you can take Business classes in high school to build your foundation and see if you really like the subject area. You also want to research the education requirements for the job and make sure that you are taking courses in high school that will allow you to continue with the education needed for the job.  Does this job require a 2 year Associates Degree from a Community College?  Does this job require a 4 year Bachelor’s Degree?  Does this job require Graduate School after I complete my Bachelor’s Degree?

6 Why is it important to have a Career Plan? You may discover careers that you’d never even thought of before! You may discover careers with salaries that surprise you! You may become interested in a new career field! You may learn more about a career and decide that it is not a good fit for you despite the nice salary!

7 Cost of Law School While salary is important, how much will it cost you to obtain the necessary education for that career?

8 Chances of NBA? For men, about three out of 10,000 male high school basketball players will be drafted into the NBA, or about.03 percent. For women, the numbers are similar. One out of 5,000 players, or.03 percent, will be drafted into the WNBA. Does the college that you want to attend offer the degree that you are interested in?  Example: If you love NCSU, but you want to become a Pharmacist you might want to go to UNC-Chapel Hill or Campbell to study Pharmacy. Also every college has different entrance requirements:  The average SAT score for students entering UNC in the Fall of 2012 was 1,305.  The average SAT score for students entering NCSU in the Fall of 2012 was 1,223.  The average SAT score for students entering ECU in the Fall of 2012 was 1,058. http://www.northcarolina.edu/about/facts.htm

11 Why is it important to have a Career Plan? If your goal is to get a 4 year degree (Bachelor’s Degree), you can expect a minimum of a $45,000 investment. If you change your Degree program, you are increasing that cost!
