Black Alert and Internal Major Incident 29 December 2014 – 8 January 2015 Cause Significant Increase in Emergency Admissions after Christmas By 5 January the wards were full so Internal Major Incident declared Response Postponed 79 Routine Elective cases Opened additional 35 beds Cancelled Routine outpatients Called in additional staff and redeployed others to support additional beds. Pharmacy staff released to support wards by using FP10s in Clinics

5. Black Alert and Internal Major Incident 29 December 2014 – 8 January 2015 External Escalation GPs alerted to situation Media announcements in local press and radio. Excellent support from partners – additional community beds opened, additional social work support and extended working to help maintain discharge, some Community Nurses volunteered to work at the hospital. Recovery Incident Stepped Down 8 January Quick return to normal operating and very strong performance since.

6. Progress and Next Steps Staffing and Recruitment Fully recruited for Nursing, Admin. Junior, middle grade and clinical specialist staff. New Advanced Care Practitioner starts Mid February 2 Consultant vacancies covered by Locums. Capacity New Clinical Decision Unit Opens 9 February New Children’s A&E Unit Opens 17 February Additional 3 Majors and 3 Minors Cubicles Opened. Hospital to Home Team now operating 7 days a week.
