Welcome to Back to School Night! My name is Jonathan Leib. I teach Science and Social Studies.

SOCIAL STUDIES TOPICS We have already been discussing map and globe skills and also the 5 components of Social Studies. Some other topics that will be covered this year include: The World’s Geography, Patterns of Life, The United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and South America.

SOCIAL STUDIES GRADES Tests will count for 50% of the student’s grade, quizzes will account for 25% of the student’s grade, class work will count for 15%, homework 5%, and class participation 5% of their grade.

SCIENCE MATERIALS SCIENCE JOURNAL PLANNER PENCIL ALL OTHER MATERIAL WILL BE PROVIDED DURING CLASS.

SCIENCE TOPICS The Nature and Inquiry of Science (The Scientific Method) The Structures, Properties and interactions of Matter (Building Blocks of Matter, Characteristics of Matter, Properties of Matter, and Changes in Matter) From Cells to Organisms (Characteristics of Life, Levels of Organization, Characteristics of Organisms, and Classification Forces and Motion (Forces and Motion, Newton’s Laws, and Mechanical Advantage) Earth’s structure and place in the Universe (Composition and Structure of Planetary Objects, Composition and Structure of Earth and Atmosphere, Natural Processes that change the Earth, and Landforms, Soil, and Land Use)

SCHOOL WIDE BEHAVIOR PLAN STEP 1: VERBAL WARNING STEP 2: YELLOW CARD STEP 3: STUDENT SELF REFLECTION FORM STEP 4: A CALL HOME AFTER 4 REFLECTION FORMS TOTAL FROM THE TEAM STEP 5: DETENTION AFTER 6 REFLECTION FORMS FROM THE TEAM STEP 6: ISS IF THE STUDENT INFRACTION IS SEVERE, THEY WILL RECEIVE AN AUTOMATIC WRITE-UP WHICH THEN INVOLVES THE PRINCIPAL WHO MAY ASSIGN DETENTION, ISS, OR OSS.

TARDIES TO CLASS IF THE STUDENTS ARE TARDY TO CLASS 3 TIMES, THEIR PARENT WILL BE CONTACTED. ON THE 4TH TARDY TO CLASS, THEY WILL RECEIVE A DETENTION. ON THE 8TH TARDY TO CLASS, THEY WILL RECEIVE ANOTHER DETENTION. IF THEY DO NOT COME TO DETENTION, THEY WILL BE ASSIGNED TO ISS. TARDIES ARE WIPED AWAY AT THE END OF EACH MARKING PERIOD.

HOMEWORK HOTLINE The homework hotline is available after 2:30 each day via the internet. Go to www.cdschools.org www.cdschools.org Under “Select a School” choose Swatara Middle School Under “Teams” choose the Green Team Select “Homework Hotline” which is on the left- hand side of the page. Select the correct date.
