Problem: Student field trips (F2F PD for teachers too) have become too expensive because transportation budgets have been cut. Solution: Use Videoconference Technology. NO!!!!! Move from traditional F2F, paper-based instruction Go to Distance Education principles which foster… Learner interaction with peers and electronic mediums Synchronous/Asynchronous learning VC is only a tool!
5
Can a teleconference call do? Telephone more spontaneous than VC. (VC may require several phone calls/emails etc). Do you need to “talk” to someone or do you need to host a conference? Conference requires an agenda, participants are tied to a calendar/dates/times. Why VC?
6
Ideal = 1 to 1 for less than 1hr. More sites = More planning and better moderation. Purpose Share/provide info Exchange info VC site location? Where will you go? How many sites will connect? (more than 3 sites = Bridge). Have an agenda & stick to it. *Understood: F2F= 80%, VC= 60%, Phone= 40% Meetings by VC

Shorter sessions (1 hr chunks) More interactivity and discussion of learning. Story-telling and questioning as teaching strategy. Learners must have done some preparation prior to joining the VC session. Read prerequisite docs, Preview video clips, etc. Expect that participants may not be prepared! Build this into the VC session. @9:00 remote site previews video together prior to VC connection. @9:15 Sites begin connections @9:30 VC event begins. PD & VC….Thoughts
